10.03.2012 Large number of touring skiers (trainees) that day compressing still quite good snow cover towards Savinja Saddle. Weather excellent, warm and fairly clear. Path without issues, skiing quite satisfactory and will need to repeat soon, as won't be possible to enjoy like this for long. Some snapshots: http://www.mojalbum.com/mosovnik/savinjsko-sedlo-10-03-2012 Good luck

hi on Friday I'd go to Savinja saddle, but with skis so interested in snow conditions or if still possible to ski down.

Skiing from the saddle is no problem regarding the snow. But exposure to avalanches in the upcoming heat wave.

There is snow, in my opinion, so much that you'll have to shovel it -- I'll probably go to the saddle on Tuesday. But go early in the morning!!!!

On Saturday we set off in a larger group towards Okrešelj. Already soon above the waterfall, trampling rotten snow became quite laborious, as it sank deeply. Snow is already about a meter deep from the parking lot and the thickness only increases with altitude. After an overnight stay at Okrešelj, on Sunday early in the morning we headed to Savinja Saddle. Overnight it had slightly frozen and sinking was not too bad, about ankle deep, sometimes a bit more. The last part to Savinja Saddle had no sinking at all and walking was divine, views superb, almost no wind. Our goal was Ledinski vrh, but we changed our minds, as under the strong sun it started to get mushy quickly and the return walk could already be dangerous due to avalanches. Despite a fairly quick descent, on the way back sinking was already strong for us, sometimes up to the butt, as the snow quickly became rotten. In the afternoon larger avalanches started from Planjava, Turska gora..., but we were long safe by then.

Keko, very very nice photos and of course the comment too. If it's no secret, with which camera and lens did you shoot? Best regards and safe steps to you .

Did you sleep at Okrešelj? Was the hut open? Who is the caretaker? They say they were looking for a new one...

ROTTEN SNOW??? What kind is it? Why walk on rot?

"gsm237" I described the conditions in the jargon that many others on this forum use a lot. The question "why walk on rot"? is the same as if I asked you why walk on frozen crust. I tried to describe the path conditions as vividly as possible, which were changing quickly, as that's what this section is for. Nevertheless we enjoyed it.

Today alone on the path to Savinja Saddle. Still quite a lot of snow for this time, it's compacted and doesn't sink in, so preferred to carry the skis - went faster. Under skis it crackled a bit here and there of course. Day as it should be. At Okrešelj on return quite a few visitors. Some impressions on the link below: http://www.mojalbum.com/mosovnik/turno-smucanje-savinjsko-sedlo-18-5-2013 Good luck!

Hi. On Sunday we plan from Logarska over Okrešelj to Savinja Saddle. If anyone knows conditions, it'd be nice if you describe them a bit Thanks.

Does anyone know if the path to Frischauf Hut at Okrešelj is dry?

To the Hut it's dry. Further there's still quite some snow. Attaching pic from Sunday. LP

Trail starts at the end of the road in Logar Valley from where you go towards Okrešelj then to Savinja Saddle and back the same way. Thanks and good luck!
