Poldanovec

Today Poldanovec was favorable to me. In the valley the wind had blown fresh snow, so I headed into Trnovski gozd. I started at the turnoff, a couple km from Lokve towards Dom na Lazni. The footpath was covered with wind-blown powder. I was on skis, so walking to the top wasn't problematic. There are numerous drifts on the path, but they are passable. I chose the circular path variant, but I recommend all hikers at the junction before Mojska draga to take the left direction, which is much less covered with wind-blown snow. Ascent to the top is not problematic. The slope isn't icy and allows comfortable walking without sinking, as there's a layer of powder on a hard base, 5-10 cm thick. Nice tour, recommended.

We followed Ksenja'smežikanje recommendation and headed out on skis on exactly the same path to Poldanovec. Conditions on the trail are still the same as Ksenja wrote. Today it was also windy and partly cloudy. Little skiing, but good conditioning tour through solitary Trnovski gozd.

25.4.
Poldanovec and the path to it is already completely snow-free. Here and there still some snow patches, but not worth mentioning. Nice hike, just very windy at the top.

Trnovski gozd always invites again and so we headed out today again to the most interesting and special peak in this area. Its shape and the intertwining of the upper trees' branches always captivate me, as they constantly fight and resist bora, rain and snow. Interesting are also the steep walls surrounding it and on top you have to watch your steps. Today it was very calm and quiet here. Not much snow, but constantly present on the trail, not too icy, so walking was quite pleasant. We did a circular path.
Someone even drove here with a car. 1

Yesterday we drove into Trnovski gozd. Our goal was Poldanovec. After ascent from the starting point for Poldanovec along the forest road we reach a junction where there's an info board. It shows a circular path, so you can reach Poldanovec summit from left or right side of the valley. The board also marks highest peaks (V. Bukovec, V. Češevnik and Mojski vrh). We did a circular path around the valley or basin of Mojska draga. We decided to continue right along the road, which is a bit longer. Interestingly, all paths and tracks in this valley are snow-covered or have drifts from 20 cm up to 2 m. On the circular path we reach a hut that's already gnawed by time, interesting fact is that workers once overnighted here when bringing wood from nearby hill, as there used to be a cableway uphill from this hut. When we arrive at the foot of Poldanovec it directs us right onto a cart track that steeply ascends and after 15 min reaches the summit, which is very panoramic. Unfortunately that day visibility to Julian Alps, Cerkno and Šentvid plateau wasn't optimal due to low clouds. From Poldanovec summit we continue on cart track that traverses down, and after few min of walking brings us to sharp right bend and we continue uphill on road, turn right past previously described info board. On return along the road, at top of the climb we turn right across small clearing onto cart track, which after few min steeply ascends and after 20 min we reach Mojski vrh (1313m), from which on nice weather you see the rest of Trnovski gozd. We finished our visit to Trnovska planota at Okrepčevalnica Lazna na Lazni, open on weekends.

Davide kept his promise and accompanied me to Poldanovec, even though the weather wasn't the most promising. Already when we left Gorica it was lightly raining, at Lokve lightly snowing. Then the snowing gradually intensified, but it didn't bother us much. Properly shod and dressed we did the circular variant and reached the summit without issues. We walked on completely snow-covered paths, through forests, ivje. Since there was no severe frost, this snowy landscape captivated me, the silence of Trnovski gozd calmed and relaxed me. nasmeh
At the beginning it wasn't snowing that heavily yet.1

Today on Poldanovec it was really spring-like... just beeches should sprout nasmeh. No snow, or only on parts of path that meet sun just for a moment. Wide views, view of foggy or cloudy valley as always something especially beautiful nasmeh.

Three years ago at this time Poldanovec was exactly like today. Snow-covered. Beautiful. Path well trodden to the circular path junction. On the path going east probably sinks a lot. Not for us, since we were on skis, poles sometimes sank completely. To summit trodden on shorter western variant, which we took back. As always in sunny weather views were lavish, endless. And it was warm. Despite light breeze, which was very welcome.

True, "ksena", the left variant really sank inzadrega. The only trail was mine and my colleague's.
But it was still enjoyable to traverse that side too.
We met and talked somewhere at the start of the path, the dogs were the reason. (they are really cute)mežikanje
And lots of enjoyment ahead.nasmehnasmeh

Today we headed to this viewpoint above Gorenja Trebuša. Right away we stepped into snow that accompanied us to the top. For such a view it's worth the 2.30h walk from the parking lot on Lokve-Lazna road. Path without features, little visited.

Hello, does anyone have info on the current state of the pathless route from Trebuša? Anyone been recently? Route description or even GPS track wouldn't hurt.

Best, Primož

Hello!
On our forum there's also a GPS track describing exactly the route you're asking about, namely Gorenja Trebuša - Poldanovec (Poldanovška grapa)!

Best, Swiss and good luck!

Here is a route description: https://www.gore-ljudje.si/Kategorije/Novosti/poldanovec-1299-m-razglednik-trnovskega-gozda-1, the start is marked, at the first farm continue straight up, higher it's hard to get lost, keep to the right side of the gully.
I also use https://www.geoprostor.net/PisoPortal/Default.aspx?, for finding paths and trails if in areas of included municipalities. In the base menu select state topographic maps and plans. On the smallest scale they are very detailed maps, which also show the mentioned trail.

This morning a bit undecided where to go, we recalled the recent post about Poldanovec we hadn't heard of. Good tip, someone here wrote: "Little visited, with excellent views". Surely the latter only for days like last Saturday. Clear to the horizon. For many Dolomites and Julian Alps peaks unsure if visible. The home monitor showed that Tre Cime, Hohe Warte, Škrlatica, Razor, Grintovec and Kočna in Kamniks, even Trdinov vrh with tower were visible. From top 4 cyclists and one hiker descending. So Poldanovec really: Little visited, excellent views.
