Preval Pasture

Yesterday we headed towards the hut on Preval Pasture from Draga through the gorge called Luknja. This marked path is not yet described here, but it's definitely worth mentioning at least. After 5 min walk from the guesthouse in Draga, at the left bend we turn right across the stream and follow the marks that lead us through a picturesque gorge on a partly secured path to the mentioned pasture. Due to fairly dense marking, we can hardly miss the target. Approx 1h30min. Conditions on the pasture: dry, hut still closed (apparently they open it only in June).
Despite bad weather it was a nice and interesting trip. Recommended!

Yes, the pasture is very nice, if I remember right; is this the one where you can also go from Ljubelj, through two tunnels (holes)? and continue the path around under Begunjščica to Roblek hut? That one was really wonderful to me!? I'm interested in yours, through the gorge, so please more detailed path description; where to start, how far by car (dir LJ), Draga????zmeden - we're from the other end of Slovenia-Styria; thanks and many hiking pleasures

From Lj direction: exit Radovljica, at intersection follow sign -Nova vas, Begunje.
In Begunje drive through village towards Tržič. At end of Begunje where road turns right uphill, turn left- dir Draga. After few km arrive at guesthouse in Draga (left, also parking). With car can continue right but not long. Park at suitable spot by (gravel) road and continue on foot past beehives on left, soon at mentioned left bend, hit wooden sign Preval. Here turn right over stream, soon first marks. Path barely ascends at first, after good 10 min. steeper. Here starts scenery like wild west -gorge that narrows well in places, some waterfalls etc. Stream narrow, path crosses it several times. After gorge exit path through forest, to bench and track from left, marked path slightly right uphill. After some time path turns more left. To second bench with table, continue left. From there path ascends in switchbacks for a while, then to indistinct gully where path goes and stream source. Practically on pasture. Hut on right side- top.
All quite easy. Just find guesthouse Draga, dir Roblek, at first left bend as said right. That's all. Enjoy the hike!

You're right, pohodnica 53...that's the pasture.
Two years ago I did circular path -from Draga over Luknja, where some pegs and bolts-nicely secured-to Preval pasture, then over "Calvary" to Begunjščica, Roblek hut and back over Planinca pasture to Draga. Some time trudgingnasmeh) also on road, not great...but nice loop.

Or instead of Calvary lower path...over Roža to Roblek...
Anyway more options...

Just tiny note re hut:
This is not mountain hut, but alpine dairy, where in summer - grazing season of course you can get food and drink. Like all dairies open from when they drive livestock there until grazing season ends.

Correct. Hut (as mentioned by Via Alpina point) managed by agricultural community Zgoša, so it's a dairy. Interesting that municipality Radovljica presents it as tourist offer under category B -isolated unsupervised mountain hut, dairy, high altitude hotel. Next to photo in ad it says: Hut on Preval pasture.

Thanks to all, especially Heinz for the detailed description; now I'm not worried about wandering and searching; I remember we were there in October at the hut or alpine dairy (to me it seemed more like a real hut), it was a wonderfully warm sunny day (men were sunbathing without shirts) and there was no problem with food and drink, and we even took pictures on the "porch" for memory; greetings to all!wink

Lepenatka, have you ever been to our beautiful Lepenatka and Rogatec or is it just a coincidence your password?

Yes, multiple times, on Lepenatka once even in winter. I allowed myself to take the name after this beautiful hill.
Hope the locals won't be mad at me?embarrassed

The hut on Preval is privately owned. It's intended for alpine dairy and as mentioned it's open during the grazing season. LP

Is there still any snow up to the hut on Preval pasture? When is the hut open?

I was on Preval 25.4. (via Luknja), to the hut and around it all dry and green (johny posted older pictures).
Via Roža to Roblek, some avalanche crossings in gullies.
But the hut on Planinca pasture was open.

Started from parking in Ljubelj at Oaza miru on Born path to Preval. Path is maintained, but along the trail they could remove spikes nailed into ground that should hold wood, next to those protruding standing spikes you can trip and fall into abyss. So something could be done! In Born tunnels flashlight and higher boots useful because puddles inside. I'd like to ask, seems to me from pasture you see Triglav, Kredarica and Dom Planika not sure I'll attach last picture.

Last year there was already a lot of scree piled up in front of the tunnel entrance from the Ljubelj side, falling from above, so crossing there was quite unpleasant. It looked like the tunnel entrance would be buried in a few years if no one goes there with a shovel to clear that pile a bit.
How is it this year?

Of course Planika and Kredarica are visible. Planika is in the left massif on the sandy knoll, Kredarica in front of the last right rocky massif.

Thanks for the reply and the tunnel is reachable without any scree on the path.

Today - Sunday from Draga through the hole: from halfway (above the gorge), path snowy, somewhat trodden, partly icy. Recommend winter boots or crampons and gaiters. Below the summit it sinks in places over the knees. Otherwise no major issues or avalanche risks.
Road to Pl. Planinci snowy, snow - clear, windblown and sinking, so practically unusable for walkers (except most persistent).

My wife and I were also at Preval today but from Lajb - Podljubelj direction. Terrain a bit mixed, a bit of ice, a bit of mud and a bit more snow in places up to the knees. Otherwise pleasant hike before lunch.
