Rečiška Circular Mountain Trail

Print

I see that there is no open thread yet (if I'm not mistaken) on this beautiful trail, which actually encircles the Rečiška valley (Laško) and leads along the peaks of the Zasavsko-Posavsko hills. The trail includes eight peaks of the eastern part of the Zasavsko-Posavsko hills, namely:
01. Govško brdo (811 m),
02. Baba (789 m),
03. Ostri vrh (855 m),
04. Kal (985 m),
05. Mrzlica (1122 m),
06. Gozdnik (1090 m),
07. Šmohor (784m) and
08. Malič (936m).

On 27.3.2016 I hiked it, with start and finish at the Laško railway (bus) station.

A bit more in the video...

Well marked, in the tourist association in Laško you can get a free map/guide to the path... lp

As Andrej said… I didn't have the mentioned guide… but it went fine anyway. Some spots need a bit more attention and it goes nasmeh.

On Tuesday 12.04. I hiked this wonderful trail.
I must say, there are no problems with the markings.

I summarized my memories at this link

If you wanted to do the trail in two stages, where is approximately the halfway point, of course with car access? Could that be Kal, or somewhere else?
Thanks and best regards!

With the PD veterans we did part of the trail on Wednesday, April 6th. We started in Mali Kal and went all the way to Laško. Beautiful, well-maintained, marked trail. Lots of cultural sights, lots of greenery.
Impressions and photos can be seen at the link:

Some info for those who, like me, are not exactly at home in those areas around Laško zavijanje z očmi.

The Rečiška circular trail is beautiful, leads through villages, numerous hills and hillocks. Some asphalt, more gravel, and lots of forest paths. For one day it's demanding in terms of fitness, but doable of course. According to Garmin (Montana / Adriaroute) it's 40 km long, which doesn't quite match the guidebook data. But true, we hiked everything mentioned in the guidebook that belongs to this trail without shortcuts velik nasmeh.

For the whole thing we took about 11 hours including breaks, but that shouldn't be a measure for others. Some are slower, some faster. Everyone should weigh their own fitness. The whole trail can be hiked in multiple stages, sensible overnight at Kal or Mrzlica.

Link to the guidebook... http://www.lasko.info/sl/pohodnistvo/a2-reciska-krozna-planinska-pot .... click below on ... Hiking around Laško and surroundings.

The guidebook has several trails around Laško. Look for trail A2 …. Rečiška trail. The trail on the ground except at the start is NOT specifically marked as *Rečiška circular trail*.

Access to the starting point...

First need to get to the center of Laško. Probably no problem getting there velik nasmeh. You can park at Spar, where there's also the crossing over the tracks and first trail marks, or on the other side of Savinja at the arranged parking.

First part from Laško via Govško Brdo to Mrzlica…

This part is exemplary arranged and orientationally undemanding nasmeh. In Laško the first mark for Rečiška circular trail is at the crossing over railway tracks at Spar. That's the only specific mark for this trail I noticed. Following the trail further is easy with a bit of orientation sense or with the guidebook help all the way to Mrzlica. The trail at the start goes a long time through villages and on gravel, until it turns to the first hill Govško Brdo.

Second part from Mrzlica via Šmohor to Laško…

In the second part the trail or marks are not arranged like in the first part and following is not quite easy. Several hiking clubs take care of marks here and it's visible not all are equally careful. No specific marks for this trail.

Already from Mrzlica onwards follow marks to Šmohor and it repeats countless times. After descent from the hut at Mrzlica towards Špajzer, the only farm around, continue right on the LOWER horizontal gravel road that turns into a long left bend. After about a kilometer of road, hiking marks to Šmohor appear again.

Soon we see right next to the marked path Suhi hrib, which has no mark leading to it. In 10 minutes on a trampled path we can cross its summit and continue descent through greenery to junction with marked path on the left (extensive forest clearing). After another kilometer there's a branch to Gozdnik. We walk over its summit and past a nice bivouac continue in the same direction on marked path down to the valley. At the junction of hiking path with gravel road turn RIGHT and walk long time on gravel to marks again for ... Šmohor ... and of course follow them.

At Šmohor you don't even know what the summit is. There's a church, a bit further the hut, the highest point is probably the water reservoir along the path to the hut velik nasmeh.

Around the hut there are now two more hillocks off the ideal line. Right is Tolsti and left Malič with transmitter on top. Most sensible is to go first to Tolsti (descent right down from hut), return same way and continue to Malič (left from hut and a bit further ascent to hill). For return from Malič there's an intermediate connecting path to Laško, so no need to return all to the hut at Šmohor. To the start no more problems, but in Laško still quite some walk past the spa to the start.

In conclusion….

Definitely the Rečiška circular trail is a nice challenge and idea for days when conditions in mountains are unsuitable for visit. With length and elevation it's very suitable for building fitness before more demanding projects. It will remain in nice memory also for the wonderful places it passes through nasmeh.

remarks - more like additions to the video: from Gozdnik towards Šmohor on "dashed": when you reach first gravel, after a few meters left to cart track and then after a while to second gravel, on it a few hundred meters and again left to cart track, on which soon you reach road to Šmohor (see attachment), shortens the path noticeably compared to staying on "first" gravel all the time. From Malič you can descend on drawn dashed or on another shortcut near take-off site (see attachment), or halfway back towards Šmohor, left branches marked path to Laško. see here

This time we repeated the trail in autumn version. Still the same length and strenuous, but also beautiful in autumn garb nasmeh. If parking in front of Spar it's about 39 km and 2400 elevation gain. Data for full hiked trail, but can shorten without ascent to Gozdnik, Tolsto or Malič.

Hut at Mrzlica surprisingly closed this Saturday zmeden. At start railway works ongoing, so careful there.

At Špar ... railway works currently officially do not allow passage. Caution1
The initial part of the path runs through populated areas2
End of October, even the sun wakes up late3
There are plenty of direction signs, but only one for the Rečiška path. It is at the beginning near the railway4
The sun was barely breaking through the haze in the sky5
Nature is preparing for rest6
The first summit on the path is Govško brdo, then we ridge-walked for a long time7

Stamps are everywhere. Apparently there is also a dedicated booklet for the Rečiška path stamps12
Knapovska cabin. Behind is the former mine entrance13
Late apricot. There were quite a few mushrooms, but all were dried out14
Here you can climb onto the babe :)15
Autumn beech. Most of the foliage has already been blown away by the wind, some greenery still remains.16

At the end of the ridge the path to Mrzlica awaited us20
Some asphalt didn't spoil the atmosphere. The sun finally began to gain strength21

Mrzlica. Despite nice weather there were no visitors. The hut was unfortunately closed25

Here the path turns past the chapel. Suhi vrh can also be crossed not far from here27
In the distance Goznik rises28
Nice bivouac on Gozdnik. The Rečiška path continues past the bivouac29
Descent from Gozdnik leads here. A gravel road to Šmohorje runs along the foot of Gozdnik30
Towards Šmohorje. The church is already visible in the background31
The hut was open, lots of visitors. Today this was our first rest32
Below the hut signs for Tolsto peak, also part of the Rečiška path33

Yes, this Rečiška trail is beautiful and also quite physically demanding.
I spent 9 hours. And a short video clip.

The Rečiška circular trail is just beautiful enough and just demanding enough to have become our annual goal nasmeh. Everything I wrote a few posts higher still applies to it. Trees are slowly getting autumn colors, chanterelles can still be found along the trail. This time all huts were open, the railway underpass at Špar is also arranged.

Lots of enjoyment to all who will hike it nasmeh

Parked at Špar in the center of Laško near the railway station1
After the initial serpentine ascent, the road stretches out and levels off2
Church along the path3
This time we saw for the first time a notice about the presence of a bear in these parts4
Our first hill. To here leads a partly asphalted, partly gravel road5
Renovated entrance portal to the former mine6
Almost to Šmohor, an unobtrusive fog accompanied us, giving the entire path a special atmosphere7
On one of the peaks8
on Kal9
shivers10
Rečiška path runs via Gozdnik, the direct direction to Šmohor is a concrete shortcut11
In a quarter of an hour we managed to pick a few kilos of boletus. Quite unintentionally, pure luck :)12
Bivouac at Gozdnik. We continued past it13
Descent from Gozdnik along the ridge ends at this weekend house with an interesting roof14
Telecommunications tower on Malič15

Otherwise a substitute excursion choice due to weather worsening, but it stayed in memory from Mr. Emil's descriptions. General impressions - trail with all additions (Gozdnik, Tolsto, Malič) requires good fitness. Probably the key is the psychological moment in the Gozdnik direction. Trails with forum instructions are appropriately followable. In autumn for a day trip you need enough km/h, which is doable with a persistently extended stride. Despite heavy rain lasting about a third of the trail, nice memories of the diversity of visited places remain. Recommended.
