Repov Cirque-Silver Saddle-Planjava-Kamnik Saddle-K. Bistrica

Print
starakapa23. 07. 2009 15:07:57
On the 21st of this month my colleague and I were on this trail. The trail is in places very hard to pass due to fallen trees and rock deposits. In some places the trail even disappears, washed away by this year's storms or heavy snow. There are some issues finding parts of the trail continuation, most at the start. Still lots of snow in places - see pics. For inexperienced hikers this trail is VERY DANGEROUS. Once at Silver Saddle the hike to Planjava and on to Kamnik Saddle is pure high-alpine joy. Scenic and very nice tour.

An unpleasant weather forecast for the weekend took us yesterday on the mentioned tour.
Little water in pools, barely over waterfall.
Fog at Silver Saddle, didn't clear after half hour wait, so abandoned planned ascent to Najvišji rob.
Sun at Planjava summit, but strong SW gusts, poles helpful for balance.
Descent via Sukalnik to K. sedlo, met people turning back as clouds covering peaks.
From hut at K. sedlo shortcut descent over scree, gorged on ripe raspberries at Pastirji.

Gorska koza,
I also want a hike through Repov kot to Planjava. I know the path is unmarked, wonder if hard for path newbie to orient.
No detailed description seen.
Thanks and lots of enjoyment in mountains.

We went 8 years ago and then, remember, could follow certain track or up ˝stenci˝, so orientation not too demanding. One or two exposed spots, but if used to unmarked paths, no big issues. Description in 111 tours, Stritar.

Lepenatka, hello!
Repov kot is extremely beautiful, but also very sad place...
In past years several tragic accidents, not only those missing turn to K. sedlo.
Advise first time go with someone who's done the path.
Even Stritar's description somewhat misleading at superficial read.
More on ZS.

Thanks, I have great respect for the mountains, so I'm more cautious.
I will definitely follow your suggestion.

This year I led a group over Srebrno sedlo to Planjava. I attach the path description if it helps. Lp, Andrej

Drive to Kamnik and follow road to Kamniška Bistrica valley. From house in Kamniška Bistrica continue driving on forest road higher to junction, continue right to Jermanca (straight start for Kokrsko sedlo). Follow this occasionally steeper road to parking before end.
From parking continue on road we parked by. Road ends after a few minutes, we continue on footpath without big ups/downs. Path crossing many gullies joins path from lower Kamniška Bistrica start. Be careful on descent to take path we came on. Well-marked fairly steep path leads us to Klin, left marked to K. sedlo, we turn right here.

Path takes us around slope to streambed. Ascend above water, first less pronounced moderate rising gully, then steeper. Soon view to Planjava walls left, Zeleniške špice ridge right, Repov kot between. Path well followable, ignore some right turnoffs. At height of visible pass under Staničev vrh in Zeleniške špice ridge, path lost under rock step. Climb it first few m left, then right across wall. Don't go too high, holds visible. Path easier again, winds mostly over scree to head of Repov kot. Direction clearer, Srebrno sedlo visible. At storm shelter stump remnant, at fork right through scrub. Continue over scree to rock slabs, cross them up small gully to right side. Along edge on grassy track to wall. Two parallel gullies, left more chimney-like. Up right one. To top then ~half hour easier climbing to Srebrno sedlo. Find easiest passages, some cairns help. At Srebrno sedlo join marked path from Okrešelj to Planjava. Summit in good half hour.
Descend marked path to Kamniško sedlo. Past all rock parts, grassy fairly flat descent to hut, spot scree below. Worth taking for quick descent to hunting hut. Lower part stay right enough or end trapped in scrub. From there marked path ~half hour back to Jermanca.

Andrej, big thanks for description. Turnoff from path (Path not to Kamniško sedlo-as written on stump), noticed..probably start of unmarked part.

We branch right, is that the spot where it says ... This path does not lead to Kamnik Saddle.
I've hiked over Silver Saddle already, but from Korošica.

Yes, that's the start, or rather continuation. Then you stick to the left side of the valley almost the whole time.

Enjoy, the path is really nice.

Andrejp, in the upper part you describe ascent up the right gully. And further along the ridge?
Easiest approach goes, of course, in the cirque over short step to the left ...
Higher up it's no longer difficult. Ridge variant is quite a bit harder (crumbly).

Yesterday headed through Repov Cirque to Planjava then descended over Kamnik Saddle back to valley. Day was gorgeous, path already in autumn colors, very little company on trail - some climbers toward Planjava and two chamois (dam with kid) that crossed my path twice.

Just back from Planjava with friend. Started at Jermanci through Repov Cirque and Silver Saddle to summit. Path through Repov Cirque well followable though pathless. Some sense needed for passages in wall under Silver Saddle but many cairns help. Climbing easy, plenty of holds so soon at saddle from where good 30 min to Planjava summit.
Summit around 10am sadly in fog, on descent to Kamnik Saddle fog lifted.
Markers recently renewed most cables on path from Planjava to Kamnik Saddle so path really exemplary.
Another nice day in mountains!

Nice path through Repov Kot first time I went 21.8 Sunday morning surely will go again, cairns help with orientation as Garmont writes we each contribute our way.
Nice greetings and safe travels!

Most opt for right variant over Silver Saddle. At natural hunting observatory (stone tower), path splits. Left goes under big hole over short climbing bit, direct to Planjava summit. This interests me especially as right I've done.

@čemšeničan, edelweiss (all three) really nice on your pics. Praiseworthy also renewing cairns. Good luck

..... when you get to that hole, left if facing Planjava summit there's a step to climb over. Not hard, couple meters scramble and once over out of the bad bit. Zigzag your way or follow faint tracks up steep grass more or less direct. Just above step remember some scrub and small trees. Grasses really steep so wet not pleasant. Already high reach marked path Kamniško-Korošica.
Long time since I was there writing from memory zadrega

That's it @turbo. Thanks.

I was mainly interested in what's behind that rocky jump, because if it's not passable, it would be pretty awkward to descend back alone, and without rope. Probably.

Yes, when I got to the hole years ago, the terrain seemed somehow unfriendly. And that little jump didn't seem hard, more interested in what comes after. As you say, back is very awkward. And I sighed deeply when I saw it opened up above. Otherwise quite steep but nicely passable. Actually, once over the jump you can take poles again . . .
