Rjavina and Vrbanove špice

Now there are so many different hikers on paths, it's smart, of course where continuously possible, to use the belay kit. Back then there weren't so many in mountains, if there were, they managed well on paths and didn't loosen rocks on others. Even chamois sometimes intentionally trigger rocks on us and if it hits upper arm or head by chance, we'll hardly hold onto any cable.

Nice to read that we share a common opinion with some ☺ Stane7 and dprapr have nicely complemented my thinking, I completely agree with everything. Stane7, still write something more, we'll gladly read impressions from some interesting hike

Read the forum... thanks for all info, first time going to this end of the Alps. Very welcome. Regarding helmet and via ferrata sets, I've been hiking without them for 30 years everywhere, and I'm still whole. Someone can say I have more luck than brains... maybe true But I got used to it, in the 80s it wasn't normal to have so much gear on, which sometimes hinders more than helps (at least me, matter of habit of course). But it's true, when I started dragging kids along, we got gear. First, it's mandatory (let's leave aside that it's IMPOSSIBLE to get suitable helmets for a 4-year-old girl...). Second, though I don't think I'm a parent who wraps kids in cellophane, on certain paths I'm calmer if those two are tied there. I also became more fearful myself, definitely hormones to blame ...so I agree with planika82, self-belaying is each individual's decision (over 14 years, until then legislation decides for you). The only thing that throws me off is seeing some on 2000+ in flip-flops Footwear really has to be at least somewhat appropriate. I was on Triglav first time in Converse, I think that's the minimum I'm not demanding

How much is a moment against 30 years... true, practically nothing. But it can be fatal. Helmet in high mountains is self-evident not only for kids but also for adults. Good luck!

John, I agree, it can be just one fatal moment, regardless of years of past. But it can also be fatal if you lose balance because you bumped your helmet somewhere, or sweat under it and it runs into your eyes. Or when via ferrata set slings get caught on a peg or rock. As I say, matter of habit. What seems self-evident to you isn't to others. To be clear, I have a helmet and kids too. But I don't think it's OK to spit on those who don't (see posts above, which planika38 replied to).

My opinion is that regarding use of via ferrata set there really is more room for "debate". Everyone equips as they think they should or don't need to ... hope based on experience, physical ability, psyche. Regarding helmet no dilemma, under walls, in rocky terrain it's mandatory. Don't know why you'd bash helmet into rock, if it happens, helmet at worst cushions the blow, if sweat runs down face equip with sweatbands, headband, cloth etc... Why would via ferrata set get caught on peg or rock? When not in use it's clipped to harness loops, when climbing you need to be fully concentrated and focused anyway. True, accident never sleeps. Even the best equipped and prepared can have it happen... but that shouldn't be "excuse" not to equip properly. Good luck!

Hello, in which direction do you recommend a circular tour over Rjavina and Vrbanove Špice?

Janez, and if we start from V.S. hut, then the other way - first Špice and then Rjavina?

I would do it that way. (The most annoying part of this tour is the descent from Lower Vrbanova špica to Kot).

Yeah, I'm pondering that too, what's worse: half hour butt-sliding to Pekel with relatively rested muscles (still very annoying, I hate such parts the most), or 2 km cables, which isn't a problem otherwise, but towards end of day we'll be pretty tired...

Yesterday we did the mentioned route. First to Vrbanove špice. Protections in good condition. From the Stanič hut to Rjavina along the ridge and descent via secured path to Pekel and on to Kot. Unpleasant descent on wet and muddy rocks in lower part.

17.10.2022 from Kot via climbing to Rjavina, then ridge to Stanič and from there over Vrbanove špice back to valley. Weather top-notch, no snow on path.

Saturday, 10.8.2024 Kot - Rjavina - Kredarica - Triglav - Stanič hut - High Vrbanova špica - Plesišče - Lower Vrbanova špica - Kot Every year slightly different summer tour, this year again nicely linked into a sensible loop, plenty of good mood and joy. 23km, 2800vm. Start in the morning sometime in Kot, parking already almost full. On wet path slowly overtaking hikers, sun rising, dream waking up. Friendly lady hikers let us pass somehow, then pull after us so we kinda raced who quits first. In upper Kot turn to Rjavina, helmets on and up climbing route to top. Nicely equipped path ends quickly, left again and quickly on Rjavina. Nice to see how various influencers / merchants / nature exploiters for own ads and profit / ... happily stick stickers and prove that where donkeys roll... well, need to clean after them too. Maybe instead of logbooks check some etiquette and read mountain behavior rules. From Rjavina over Mala Rjavina to Rž and Kredarica. Hospitality there pointless... Helmets on again and queue to summit. 🙂 Well it went ok, but really lately become some carnival / circus. For me won foreign hiker descending last cable before summit in full gear, poles on wrists and happily clipping. Hope she felt safe. Summit closed, so quick turn to sun at Stanič hut. Quick bite, check how Janja fights for gold and on to High Vrbanova špica. From there past Plesišče on super path to Lower, really super views, wild passages, path of course ok, some bracket loose. Below Lower Vrbanova špica small landslide so path bit damaged, careful on descent. Then few turns and on way to Kot. Good hour to car, then one or two cold ones 🙂 It was nice.

Apropos Stanič hut, bad memory from 2022 for two reasons: - lad at counter didn't know what spritzer is ; - with jota served moldy bread. Anyway congrats all on wonderful and demanding tours.

Initially didn't want to criticize Stanič hut, but to Tomco's comment add that my mustache surely heavier by half liter radler, wallet 7€ lighter, if they hadn't let us with companion wait whole five min at empty counter, just enough to find glasses and check astronomical prices on menu. Instead cool spring at turnoff to Macesnovec cared for refreshment, overheated body after four lengths semi-pro crawl nicely cooled in Kreda lake. Access to lake harder, no second wooden bridge towards Krma, need to ford Radovna, for heroes used to all bad stuff real child's play
