Thanks to guide Marjan and PD Nova Gorica guide Jože, we visited Holy Mountain and Škabrijel. On Sunday in clear, spring weather, together almost 50 hikers. The path was varied, otherwise slippery due to recent rain. With our thoughts on the events of World War I, through trenches and caverns. Over 40,000 victims, so much unnecessary suffering and victims. The longest cavern over 200 meters, we used headlamps, helmets. On Holy Mountain a basilica from the 16th century, statue of St. Francis, and wire sculpture of St. Francis, gift of the Strunjan Franciscans from 2014. At the top fascinating views, among pines towards Sabotin, all the way to the sea. Soča with the Solkan bridge. On the other side the village Grgar, then towards Korada, Matajur and the Julian Alps. From Skutnik to Krn, Triglav and Bohinj mountains. And towards Čavnu and further towards Trstelj and Black Hills to Cerje. We descended towards Prevala, past the monument to commander Borojević and ascent to the top of Škabrijel. Finally, all this for me the first time. On Škabrijel we also met hikers from Italy. The tower also offers nice views. Descent past the Kekec inn, unfortunately everything was occupied, so we will come another time for pancakes. Another descent and a stop at the inn Na livadi in Ajdovščina, where we had lunch in a pleasant atmosphere. All hikers grateful to both guides for safe guiding, organization and all explanations. In total 700 m elevation gain, 14 km.
