Skalnica - Sveta gora

Print
sabina.722. 10. 2010 19:11:11
Today I climbed to Holy Mountain via the path through the WWI trenches. Parked at the first wooden cross. After 50 meters turn right and the first short cave is already ahead. Then we climb through trenches, partly on rocks. The path is constantly extremely well marked. We continue on the trail winding through the forest until we reach the main part where the main path section starts, a 260 meter underground passageeek that takes us to the other side of Skalnica. The first part is interesting because you have to bend down and walk crouched. After that rocky steps and one steep smooth bit await. You always have a rope for help. Today that part was wet and slippery. Then the path is flat and you can't get lost. Headlamp essential of course. Luckily no critters and I safely reached the top. Interesting! nasmeh

Yesterday evening hike to Holy Mountain.
We started path at first cross and went left uphill, path not steep, only on some parts slight ascent, not too much. Path then brought us to main road, there across road immediately right uphill, after approx. 10 min walking already at church.
Around it was howling, we walked in shelter. Really pleasant to listen how it howls around, while tiny snowflakes caressed our cheeks in silence.
Start, it was still a bit windy there.1
Towards the summit, in shelter.2
In good and smiling company.3
Illuminated church and pleasant feeling.4
It's nice to be with friends.5

Zvončnica my dear, I really don't know if this section is meant for descriptions and photos of the path or maybe as an album of individuals who took part in this HIKE.

Bravo girls. You're pretty. Path description, most of us know it. Well, maybe I'll join you next time. Otherwise plenty of foušije. Better they wag their tongues than their legs. Keep it up.

how much I laugh when I read your comments....some boast how little time they need to the hill, some take pics of the path and present it nicely, some post all kinds of hike pics and in the end we ourselves choose if we'll peek at the photos and description or not...if someone has no company or wants such nice positive company they can click us and go with us......well....the world is beautiful just because there are so many different ones.... let's like each other and above all respect... we are all weird in our own way but also beautiful...nice day everyone!:=)mežikanje

I experienced a similar comment too, but if there were no pics anywhere, I would never have chatted with Zvončnica and Snežinkica. I like looking at alpine flowers, and also female hikers in pics, and starakapa, if you don't want to see albums, don't open the pics and go to another thread!!!velik nasmehvelik nasmeh

Poor girls. One doesn't like what you do under Kredarica, the other doesn't like your night wandering - good thing there are more of us who gladly look at your reports. Good luck further.

Yesterday we had to shelter from the bora again and the trench under the summit of Skalnica was a suitable choice, although it protected us from the wind only 260 meters in length nasmeh. The path was well described by Sabina.7, so just some photos... these are more or less similar to Sabina's.

Better that bora blows than shrapnel flies, nasmeh, the trench is very interesting, Austrians had a lot of work with it, but it's nice to see pics again after a long time, at the third pic colleague arranged the shooting trench and concreted it too

Today the bora finally subsided and so David and I set off for Skalnica via the most interesting path through the trenches. I found out they slightly improved the passage by adding steps where it's steepest. Since I hadn't seen Ksenina's previous description, I was positively surprised by the ice stalactites decorating the tunnel. Nature constantly reshapes its form. Down we ran along the normal trail to build some fitness. nasmeh

The third picture: the colleague newly renovated the cavern and roof, this is not from those times, it's today's, but just so one knows how it was back then at the start of the battles.

Today we visited friends in Solkan, but not to waste the day just on that, we climbed Skalnica first. I can only say @sabina.7 thanks for opening this thread so we learned of this wonderful path "loaded" with historical memories and landscape beauty.

We were a bit concerned imagining it as "Solkan's Smarna Gora" that on such a nice day and Saturday too crowds, parking issues etc...But to our surprise...none of that nasmeh. At parking by first cross only one car, whole path up and down we met no living soul, top only handful of people.

Path dry, very well marked, weather pleasantly warm and views wonderful. What more could one want...nasmeh...
