Today tour to Skuta via Žmavčarje, over Štruca and Dolgi hrbet to Mlinarsko sedlo and by bearing to Kogel, then descent over Gamsov skret.

Most problematic are snowfields to start of climbing path on Skuta. I used winter gear myself so it went worry-free and quick. Climbing part without winter gear, whatever snow left can bypass.
To Ml. sedlo no issues, markings renewed and really visible.

In pictures see snow conditions of surrounding peaks. Except bivouac under Skuta full of sleepers didn't meet anyone. But first time saw chamois lying on snow and sunbathing. smile

Hi,
has anyone been here last days, are snowfields under climbing path already passable without winter gear? Thanks.

In which direction is it better to do the circular path? I was thinking of going from Ravenska Kočna. Is it better to go over Dolgi hrbet up and over Rinke down to Ledine, or reverse?

For me personally, the descent from Mlinarsko sedlo to Češka koča is more demanding than the descent from Rinka to Ledine.

Thanks, how long does it take approximately from Skuta to Koroške Rinke, it looks like about 1h30 around there.

...that's hard to say, depends on how fast a pace you have and how quickly you go on the secured path, I who am a bit older need 2:30 - 2:45

Hello,

I plan to visit Skuta, still deciding on the starting point. Somehow for SPP I would go from Ravenske koče to Češka koča and over Mlinarsko sedlo to Skuta, the other is from Suhadolnik.
Regarding climbing, I generally have no problems, but based on what I've read, I'm just curious about the descent from Mlinarsko sedlo? Is it as demanding as written? If I were to compare, up to Storžič via Žrelo is no problem, but going down the same path is not for me. Is this descent similar?

Thank you very much for answers in advance.

The most beautiful loop to Skuta in my opinion is up via Žmavčarje and descent to the other side and past Cojzova koča back to the valley.

The path from Češka koča to Mlinarsko sedlo is harder than Žrelo on Storžič.

The path from Mlinarsko sedlo to Češka koča is scree-covered, exposed, secured rather approximately. It cannot be compared to Žrelo, especially not downhill. I would compare it to the path across Kriška stena.

I would also compare it to that across Kriška stena, which is even more scree-covered. But both seem to me much less safe than the one on Storžič through Žrelo.

tomaz117,

yes, as others said. Frischaufove from Mlinarsko cannot be compared to Žrelo. The whole tour from Ravenska Koča over Mlinarsko sedlo, before Dolgega hrbta to Skuta counts as wide-trail and demanding tour. Return must be either back over DH or over screes south just below DH, which are currently dug up in places, so this path currently has features of (slightly wild) pathless terrain in places. So if you're planning maybe first time to Skuta and not sure if you're up to the whole path, it's really more recommended via Žmavčarje and back past Cojzove. This approach also has its challenges and is not boring at all! nasmeh Skuta is top, whichever way you tackle it. Good luck, and report how it was nasmeh

Hi,

as Enka and Tomco suggested, I took the circular path, over Žmavčarje and back past Cojzove. I have to say the suggestion and decision was right (thanks for the advice to both). The climbing part wasn't that demanding either, so I completed the whole path without problems.
THE ONLY problem was today's weather. Me and some hikers I met coming down from Skuta, we all checked Arso weather, which really around 9am still showed sun, but up top dense fog. So will have to go up again velik nasmeh

What was the visibility like and were the rocks slippery, I might go to Rinke tomorrow but it looks like it will be cloudy all day, and bravo for the tour

Up via Žmavčarjev, down past Cojzova.
Beautiful day.
About 30 m in the wall above the ridgelet in the wall there's a fresh small rockfall. A few meters of path in the wall from the ridgelet upwards is filled with scree, so greater caution needed there.
