Slovenian Way of St. James

Print
bagi25. 10. 2011 20:42:14
This year's autumn vacation a bit differently nasmeh. I swap mountains for hills, valleys and mostly known mountain paths for completely unknown ones to me across our beautiful country. I decide quickly and after two days I'm already at the start of the path. Alone and quite unprepared zmeden. In the morning still in pitch dark I stand at the Bregana border crossing just before Zagreb. "Where to, where to", a young policewoman asks me when I ask her for a stamp. "Yeah … I'm going to Trieste. On foot to Ljubljana and then to the sea" zavijanje z očmi. Doubt about my sanity reflects in her eyes, but she still wishes me a good journey velik nasmeh. I don't doubt. A series of events sent me on this path and there's no room for doubt. Over 300 km in one go and more than 6000 m of elevation gain in 11 days of walking. You follow yellow arrows and shells. When they run out, you trust intuition. Gravel, asphalt, forest paths, off-trail. Eat and sleep as it comes. Day by day. An experience that cleanses body and soul jezik. Wonderful landscape and people. When on day 11 I spot Trieste, I have more energy than at the start. And it's the first time in Trieste. But never, really never did I think I'd walk into it on foot velik nasmeh. Whoever wants more about the Slovenian Way of St. James, write to me on ZS or gasperin.emil@gmail.com. And boldly on the path nasmeh.

@bagi!

Yes, interesting trip. Under the photos you could add something so we'd know where you wandered before arriving in Trieste.

@bagi, sincere congrats for this huge feat! Respect!
In what condition are the hips, knees, etc.? I myself after long tours including forest road walking (due to shortness of breath) usually have hip problems..
I believe it paid off big for you and you'll fondly remember this achievement till the end of life! Enviable!

@Heinz hello. Thanks for congrats nasmeh. I took this trail a bit too lightly because with fitness I didn't expect problems, more with will zavijanje z očmi. Also with well-broken-in gear no, at least at start I thought so jezen. But walking 9~10 hours each day and feet swelled so much that otherwise very comfy boots simply became too small. Here the little toes and toe pads pulled the shortest straw - read blisters jezen. But that's forgotten. Weather fantastic for the season, memories unique nasmeh.

Bravo Emil,

if you'd announced your trip, you could have stopped by for coffee and more at my place. Slovenian Camino goes past my house near Ljubljana. We could discuss that "crazy good" Vevica crossing ... or trekking in Nepal ...

Any orientation issues or is the trail so followable there are no major problems. I've browsed the net a bit for info, some is to be found, but best is firsthand info.

Best regards!

I also congratulate you for this hiked trail. It's good that you didn't count the steps, how many accumulated.

From the photos I've now checked (as much as I recognized) and congrats. The trail is really a mouthful.
Never heard of it before and it seems interesting to me. Where did you overnight??

You see, how clumsy I was, I didn't even congratulate you for the walked path. The photos attracted me and I forgot the rest.

Congratulations for the pilgrimage on Slovenian Way of St. James. The initiative for the path was given by Marjeta and Metodij Rigler, who then walked a long "via dolorosa" among ignorant state officials and narrow-minded tourism workers to mark it at all. They also published a guide for the Slovenian St. James path titled "Where are those paths that used to be?". A Cycling Guide to the Way of St. James has also been published. There is also the Society of Friends of St. James Path in Slovenia.

Big thanks to all for the sincere congratulations nasmeh There's interest in this path, so some general info. Slovenian Way of St. James sticks as much as possible to ancient paths on which our ancestors pilgrimaged to Santiago de Compostela. The path won't leave anyone indifferent, especially if one decides to walk it in one go. It crosses a good part of Slovenia and is a real challenge, especially if you don't worry about where you'll sleep and what you'll eat zavijanje z očmi. With this path Metod and Marjeta did exceptional work. And they're continuing. Next year the Višarska path from LJ to Višarij will be completed, they're already working on the Ogrski path from Hungarian border towards LJ. Places where I walked and where I slept I'll add later velik nasmeh

@rober, you're right velik nasmeh. Nepal was unique because of the exotic, St. James path because of discovering self, people and landscape. Super cool nasmeh. Talk soon.

@geppo,@Irina ... can't add comments to pictures afterwards zmeden. Attaching GPS track where the course of the path is excellently visible.
As for sleeping, it was very varied nasmeh Slept as it came .. in hostels, with wonderful people (thanks), with monks in Stična (never forget), at home when path led there, on weekend terrace (sorry, cleaned up), at farms (not farmwives) and finally in a small hotel in Italy when I braked too late and was unknowingly already in Italy velik nasmeh.

Thanks for explanation. Somehow I thought that for the commenter with each contribution, on the right side, green squares always open; pictures, upload pictures, video.
And if you open "pictures", the page opens as at the beginning when you uploaded them. There text additions are possible and simultaneously delete photos or add new ones.

hola
I just now "stumbled" on this page and realized we met in Logatec. Congrats on the walked path. To all who will repeat it, I advise against the path along Napoleon's avenue in Logatec, which is in one of the pictures above. When you reach that road, cross it and continue along the western edge of the industrial zone until you reach a parallel path that joins this one in Logatec. Now that they installed crash barriers along the road, walking the avenue is deadly dangerous!!!

bagi: outstanding achievement. congratulations and respect. as I see, you also walked the new path to Italy. quite a few of us have a growing desire for this journey. I'm a mountain lover and hiker, and I'm getting more and more excited about such paths. a friend got me excited about Camino de Santiago in Spain too...have you been there too? for me it's time to start planning...
