Best leave car at barrier (Dol). Sure can go higher, but road steep, with frequent tree felling also quite bad state at least for car. Nice walking the little road too. Otherwise nice loop through window no more than 5 hrs. Incl time for enjoying and photos. Good luck!

Let me "stick" my yesterday tour here. Started in Gozd village above Golnik, took steep path to Kriško planina, continued to Tolsti vrh, down to Mala Poljana, then over Psica (really bites ) to Storžič. A bit longer stop hoping sun beats clouds, but not today. Then descent past Škarjev rob and past Javornik planina to window, icing on the cake short climb to Stegovnik. Then nice descent past Rezman farm to Kanonir and nice day done. Path otherwise no peculiarities, just bypass fallen storm debris under Stegovnik, adds spice to experience. Photos in a day or two...

Today was a day for powder snow lovers. I chose Stegovnik from the Kokra valley. According to info, up to 20cm of new snow. But there was quite more, at least 30cm. Already at the start I saw the trail would be tough as I was the first after the last snowfall. Luckily the snow was extremely dry, so it went ok. At the beginning it sank up to 15cm, from the hut onwards less than to the knees didn't happen, often up to the waist. On the clearings above Močnik saddle it's also dangerous because the new snow hasn't bonded to the base yet. I didn't follow the marked trail all the time, as I looked for passages between trees with less snow. Just before the saddle where three trails meet I missed badly, as I turned towards Brsnina pasture. From there onwards along the ridge it was a bit easier, as the snow is windblown, though drifts don't lack up to the top. For the last part crampons and ice axe are mandatory, as some places are icy, and the ridge trail isn't among the easiest. I took a bit less than four hours to the summit. Returned the same way. You can tell it's already March as in the lower part the snow settles and melts quickly, so the way back was easier. LP Miro

Stegovnik is really remote, but it's a wonderful tour. Hats off from my side.

Miro, beautiful photos and super idea for next winter. This winter wasn't my day, but after three months of forced rest I'm back. Stegovnik was the right choice for reopening, I also like its remoteness and solitude... Yesterday from Medvode, alone at the top, happy, what more could one wish... Views were still gorgeous in the morning, later clouded over and earliest return became inevitable. And just as I got home, it poured. Beautiful day on our little hill and only when such feelings are temporarily taken away and every now and then a voice appears that maybe they'll never return, do you truly realize their value..

When our PD from Medvode goes on an excursion, it's never quite short. For the Stegovnik trail we chose Medvodje as starting point, bus picked us up at Kanonir, on the other side of the mountain. Trail from Medvodje first passes Štegovniški waterfall (nice), then climbs along the namesake stream. But it's not marked. But since scouting trips are necessary in such cases, we didn't get lost. At the top we joined the connecting trail from Javornik. Through the windows and to the other side leads the marked trail, true it's not the shortest. We descended before Kanonir, over Rezovnik there's a sign somewhere. Ascent and descent were quite wet today due to constant rain, but everything is nicely green and blooming because of that. The mountain itself is beautiful anyway. Steep, precipitous on all sides and for its relatively low height a real beauty. On descent we met another 33 hikers from around here, almost a jam, but since there's enough for all , it worked out fine this time too. Trail descriptions on this portal, but for this variant transport needs organizing, as it's not a loop.

Today up over Močnikovo sedlo, descent through windows and under Stegovnik direct to hut. No snow anymore of course, as for path, you need to watch that after exiting through windows you turn left on initially unmarked path and not right towards planina Javornik. Later markings appear and no problems with following the path. Regards

Due to road works, today from the Jezerska side we had to walk from Kanonir. The road was closed.
