How much time is needed from the shepherd's hut on Dolga Njiva to Stegovnik and further to the hut under Storžič.
Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. It seemed so to me when I checked the map. I plan to do the Tržič mountain path nicely slowly, otherwise in one go 5-6 days.

Today initially drizzly and around 10 we decide to go. Now driving from the barrier onwards in Medvodje is prohibited. Apparently hunters and foresters photograph the vehicle left beyond the barrier and send it to the enforcement authorities. They send the vehicle owner at home "nice greetings" in the form of a 15-digit TRR number to which you need to respond in the legally specified period (transfer 200.- EUR). If you don't pay on time, the fine is 400.- !!!
The path from the barrier to the place where one could once park really drags.
We had the path description in the form of screenshots of images from the path description on this portal (http://www.hribi.net/izlet/medvodje_stegovnik_po_cesti_in_skozi_okno/11/442/4176). At the key point where the path-track sharply turns right, we continued straight. After 15 minutes we ended up in a dead-end "street". We returned to the key sharp junction and caught the right track which soon turned into an unmarked well-visible path. After a somewhat steeper ascent we arrived at the place where there's no path anymore and from here, as written in the description, after a short steep pathless section after a few minutes we caught the marked path from Močnikovo sedlo, Javornik or from Jezerski konec (kanonir).
Continuation through the windows to the summit was less interesting or for us, who prefer to stick to marked paths, predictable.
The summit was quite visited, we met about a dozen people.
Temperature was pleasantly autumnal, I'd say there was inversion as we weren't cold on the summit but when descending it properly chilled us in Medvodje.

Stegovnik. All nice and right, only from Močnikovo sedlo onwards there's a bit of trouble due to markings and fallen timber. That other junction after Močnikovo sedlo to the right probably isn't marked at all due to tree felling (maybe I'm a bit blind), due to fallen timber then in continuation you can quickly hit some first ascent route zavijanje z očmi. If you have some orientation (and no fog), you'll manage, probably it's time for the responsible ones to do something about that fallen timber too.
Otherwise these are nice areas and what's especially in this quarantine time quite important, also quite solitary.
Well, snow/ice today only for the "summit book", so no problems at all.

Does anyone know what those wires (fence) along the path to Stegovnik were intended for - on the more or less last ascent from the direction of Močnikovo sedlo? (I don't mean that "zajla" under the ridge intended for protection.)

Yesterday (Sunday, 03 May) afternoon via Močnikovo sedlo and back. The path is well marked, only the newly bulldozed tracks have damaged it somewhat in places. Some five hundred meters ahead from Močnikovo sedlo, below Ruš summit there's a clearing full of roots of fallen trees. From there the path is harder to follow and crosses west into the forest, where uncleared fallen trees greatly hinder passage. Following tracks of one or two predecessors I bypassed the mikado on the right side. The quite steep wooded slope wasn't my favorite, so I was glad when after some 200m lower down I spotted the path again.

To the Pri Lojtri saddle, I had to bypass another two or three fallen trees but without issues. Further on, the path is without peculiarities, Born's fences on the steep ridge section (see above posts by Pclop and Tadej) are still quite something after a hundred years. One snow patch near the cable I bypassed, the other I just jumped over nasmeh.

On return I followed the path to the fallen trees. The trodden footprints led me just a few meters lower from the fallen area after some 50m to denser spruce undergrowth, from where, somewhat surprised, I stepped onto the clearing below Ruš and back to the path. Simple and short. Someone, from ascent side, had carefully marked the start of the little path through spruces with several small cairns, but I overlooked them going up. So it doesn't happen to others, I rolled up sleeves, improved existing cairns a bit and built two or three new ones. And on the path variant with marking at start that misled me, out of a bit of anger I threw a pile of branches across. Hope it helps someone.

Reached the car already in twilight. On path met two right at start, then no living soul. Very nice and solitary end!

Yesterday (Tuesday, 5 May). Since the virus has accustomed us to the same municipality, I went to Stegovnik again, this time from Dol via the window. From the forest road beyond the holiday cottage I somehow found the right track, which branches right, then left, then right and a bit off-path to the marked trail leading under the eastern slopes of Stegovnik. The path is rarely used, completely untrodden, covered with needles and leaves, with fallen trees across in some sections. Therefore, the sensibly placed marks are all the more important, more of them where the path is harder to follow. Congratulations to the Kranj markers!

Also on the saddle between Stegovnik and Mali Javornik, similar to Pri Lojtri and Bukovec, visible remains of Born's deer fences. Someday maybe do a tour along the boundaries of this enclosure. The triple natural window in Stegovnik is really extraordinarily interesting. While passing through it, amid enthusiasm for this natural wonder, one of the two bolts on the cable on the western part simply pulled out on me, providing a bit of extra adrenaline. The cable now hangs on the upper eyebolt, but no major problem. That meter or two can be descended without issues, just with a bit more caution. Another cable is stretched between two dry trees just below the summit ridge, but merely as some kind of fence by the path, no major difficulties on the path.

On return it was lightly raining, but nevertheless I continued towards Mali Javornik and climbed also this nice panoramic summit via the NE side on wet, locally a bit steeper grasses in the upper part. During ascent rewarded with view of whole meadows of blooming soldanella, like never seen before. Had some time left and poked further along the marked path towards Javorški preval and via the gentle slope on the south side of Mali Javornik found myself almost on top again. This circular excursion (© P. Plezalček nasmeh) at late hour led to decision to head back. Via the system of numerous tracks on the eastern slopes of this (almost) twice visited mountain I descended to the forest road and further along Zabukovški stream to the car.

Weather sour all the time, rained for about two hours, only around 7pm Kočne briefly sunlit. Didn't meet anyone on path, still it was nice. But next time maybe really to another municipality.

P.S.: reported the cable issue at the window to poskodbe.poti@pzs.si. They promptly confirmed receipt.

Many years ago the trip to Stegovnik remained unfinished due to thick fog that accompanied us the whole way. Well, yesterday the trip was completed, but we stayed on top without views. So, the debt remainsnasmeh.

We ascended from Dol via Močnikovo sedlo, and since we didn't check previous hikers' experiences and advice well, we pushed through fallen trees in steep terrain (we got used to itnasmeh), but it turned out well. We stepped back onto the marked path from the slope above the gully that needs to be crossed. Therefore I recommend following j.'s advice and his last photo in the previous post.
From the top we took another path and that was the best decision of the whole trip. Passage through the wall via three impressive caves is an unforgettable experience you simply can't miss. Magnificent nature, really, even the fog was forgotten. Much nicer than I imagined and nicer than pictures can capture. Before that, walking the soft path under steep smooth walls glistening with droplets running over them captivated me.

On return we didn't climb back to Močnikovo sedlo, but from the marked path at the boulder turned right and thus made a loop at the weekend.
On the trip we met almost no one, finished the trip right among the flowers on the meadownasmeh.

The unmarked path towards the windows interested me, as I went along it years ago but forgot it a bit. In the meantime the path has become well trodden and cairned, so it's hard to miss.
After reaching the marked path Okna - Močnikovo sedlo I headed to the saddle, but regretted it a bit, as there's quite some fallen wood on the path, requiring more or less strenuous detours. But we made it somehow, as direction was clear.
Good news is that the path from Pri Lojtri saddle to Močnikovo sedlo is exemplary maintained and newly marked, fallen trees removed or sawn (wasn't like that in April). No primroses, all frozen, but there was a loud deer or bear. Didn't stay long enough to find out who the howling belonged to velik nasmeh

Yesterday with Nessy first time this season on ski touring. Under Stegovnik from Dola, since the path is wide and not too steep, so plenty of room for my stunt skiing, runs through forest, so almost no avalanche danger. At the car I skin up and gear up, then with Nessy glide to the cabin on the clearing under Stegovnik, catch some sun there. From there ski down the powder into the valley. Rarely is the first touring trip so fantastic nasmeh

One "short shift" that was anything but short, back to car already deep into night time.

The finger led on the map from Stegovnik over Mali Javornik to Ženiklovec. But all together still needed connecting into a loop. Partly marked, partly unmarked, not too demanding orientationally or technically, nice views and fairly solitary.
