Storžek (Belski Turn) 2110 m

No hurry. This was one of the shorter tours. But Storžek is nothing special, I've only known about it for a few years, it wasn't on old maps. Probably because it's on the Austrian side But I enjoyed the vertical to Baba the most. On dry rocks and along continuous cable it's really cool.

Tone, according to the list of two-thousanders by Marijana&Marko, whose data are supposed to be reliable, the relative height of Ledinski vrh is 41m, Storžek aka Belski Turn is even 76m. You say you enjoyed the dry rock by the cable. Does that mean you climbed it without the cable's help?

Hi, Ivo! If you measured it from the Austrian side it's even more than you mention Of course it could be done without it too. There's no scree on the rocks, the slope isn't too steep either. But the cable is right at the ground, so you have it between your feet all the time during ascent.

I don't go on those cables anymore better carefully down the ridge Nice day today! Good luck!

I was on Storžek today. There is no snow patch at the entrance to the climbing section. The protections are really in bad condition. Even harder on the descent. The climbing section itself is quite demanding, personally the worst part is when the cables end and there's still five minutes to the summit, but on smooth rocks... The summit doesn't offer space either, I think only three people can stand there...

Has anyone been up there recently? What's the condition like?

Hey DVas, about 2 weeks ago I visited Storžek with two friends. Up and down we went via the SW ridge because the secured section of the path (see pics 10 and 11 from garmont) has no cable and even lacks most pegs. Only a climbing rope is strung, hooked into the root of the shrubbery...

Is this the ridge that runs right of Ledinski vrh? Back the same way I assume? Any peculiarities?

Yes, approach from the direction of Jezersko saddle. The ridge is short but airy. 2nd grade…on descent.

"... The steep unnamed peak above Jezersko saddle near Ledinski vrh didn't let Stanko Klinar rest until he named it. Storžek, 2110m (Vellacher Kopf, lies entirely in Austria, short secured path from Belska Kočna). We two climbed it from the ridge above Jezersko saddle via a southern gully that looked sharp from afar (under 40m height), but 'climbing' was quite easy, rock surprisingly solid and difficulties didn't exceed grade I." source: http://www2.arnes.si/~mcuder/dnevnik/050515.html

If I understand correctly, the official path described and photo documented here on hribi.net (Okrešelj - Storžek), in the last climbing part is no longer properly secured - so safety gear no longer serves its purpose......and another (freely after Prešeren) path must be taken?

True. But you don't have many options. The ridge path from Jezersko Saddle is relatively short but very exposed. And then you return the same way... Probably someone will write you that with caution it's possible also on the secured path. Depends who.

A few years ago, when returning from Velika Baba, we found the easiest variant to the top. It didn't exceed I. and then along Storžek ridge to the cross at the end (a bit harder there) we returned and descended loose scree gullies. lp

For me the descent along the ridge was somewhat scary. It's very exposed and the rock although solid to touch doesn't look quite 100% reliable in places.
