Hello. Has anyone been to Storžič through Žrelo in the last days? Is the path icy and what are the conditions? Thanks for answers.

No snow, but locally disgustingly slippery, especially on roots, caution not amiss.

On Tuesday I used the nice day for leave and went from Storžič to Srednji vrh. On Storžič I didn't go quite to the top though, since more walking awaited ahead...anyway I didn't plan it from the start velik nasmeh

Conditions are like this, no signs indicating avalanche danger. More likely a slip. New snow still completely unprocessed and little of it, probably windblown. Below very icy base. Of course it varies from place to place, not the same everywhere.

Today, on Saturday, we set off for a semi-winter Storžič.
Start from Laško. Snow starts above planina Kališče. From the saddle onwards it's nice to walk, but when you reach the ridge it starts alternating snow and rock. Temperatures were around zero, but the snow didn't hold at all. On the summit there was a little wind from the west. Back the same way.

Last year I was up there dry, this year
I was craving whiteness, so yesterday I headed up. The road just above Mače even Russian tanks would struggle to pass, I made it and parked by the stream. No vehicles anywhere, 'Kljuke' have finished with the logbook entries, the only hiker I catch up with is Ruda, whom I'm very glad to see after a long time. I don't linger at the hut, as the weather forecast was very unclear. At the bench on Bašeljski preval I put on my gaiters and battle up the steep slope through rotten snow. I hunt for dry rocks, so I barely stuck to the path. No one from this side had gone up for at least a few days before me. The sky was clearing, and I really enjoyed it on the ridge, especially on the summit. As I was leaving, two gentlemen arrived from Gamsov raj, apparently it was very demanding. On the return, I chat with the only guest Rudi (and his lady) and the caretaker Tanja, below I fill water from the stream, and at Medeni vrt I treat myself to a cappuccino...

The sky is clearing, great views from the summit are promised.

More or less I avoid rotten snow and if possible, I walk on dry rocks.

In a straight line Zvoh, Srednji vrh and Bašeljski vrh, where I am still heading.

Only the branch (right) is still completely covered in snow.

The front (gray-white-green) peaks are Mali Grintavec 1813 and Bašeljski vrh 1744.

Povlje, Velika Poljana and Čez Psico to Storžič, 3 small snowfields on the ridge. First two no problem, third can be a problem. There were a couple of steps and it was doable. If it had been icy, I don't know how to get there except vertical climb on rocks. Met 4 on the summit, one more came. Even though it was around 18:00. Descent via south path, crossed the first traverse snowfield, there were steps. Lower down I descended via the snowfield, although dry was possible. And back to Povlje.

from home eggs, I make a biscuit, ground wholegrain oats, alcohol, cocoa, butter..... basically whatever I get my hands on.

Has anyone been up through Žrelo? And over Škarjev rob? Curious about conditions, still snow?

On FB I saw that two went up and there's still snow on a few spots, if I saw the pics right most is where the descent goes over Škarjev rob.

If you know where the path runs, common sense tells you that the descent from the top towards Škarjev rob first part is in snow. Here everything is free, if it doesn't go then just call the helicopter. That's normal here, but true more typical for foreigners. Waste paying 100 EUR insurance for such things, here it's irrelevant.
Those who know me even a little know what I meant to say.

First-hand explanation. I agree that a suitable insurance model like neighboring Austria would come in handy. Even if you have the right gear, knowledge, an unpredictable situation can arise in the mountains that any of us can find ourselves in. But at the same time, we need to distinguish when rescue is justified and when some abuse it.

Yes from first hand, some were entitled to free rescues, since we pay/I pay for it every year. Somehow it makes sense to me, but I wouldn't need it.

Lots of snow still on the path over Škarjev rob, saw it yesterday (27.5.) from top of Storžič.

Yesterday I went from Dom pod Storžičem to the top of Žrela and back via Psica. Road to hut is drivable, no more sign for driving ban.

On the path through Žrelo there are still two snow patches. First is where the path crosses a very steep gully, secured with a cable. Snow by the wall already melted, so the cable and narrow strip of ground next to it are clear. The clear strip of ground is narrowest at the start. Here maybe someone would have to step on snow before reaching the cable.

Second snow patch a bit further, in an indistinct medium-steep gully that the path crosses. I could bypass this snow patch more or less by dropping into the gully, crossing it some ten meters lower where the snow ended, then up the gully edge to the path continuation. Had to step on snow in places, but could hold the gully edge. Snow medium hard, could kick steps in it. Probably crossable without gear where the path goes too, but preferred not to try.

Path over Psica was clear.

Today up via Žrelo, descent along Psica ridge. Both paths clear.
