Yesterday with Perica, for maintaining fitness from Smolnik over Šumik to Klopni vrh from 16:30 to 20:30, path without peculiarities. Heat is also much more bearable in Pohorje forests. Hut on Mon. closed, yesterday the keeper came to check animals so we weren't deprived of cold goat...

Two weeks ago I walked all paths, so now all times are known, the path is exceptionally beautiful Pleasure to be on Pohorje!

Yesterday I park in Smolnik and head above Lobnica valley over Zgornji Smolnik to Šumik. The path to the branch from gravel into primeval forest is interesting: a bit of road, bit of path, bit of gravel, bit of views, little church,... more than enough things that break the monotony that otherwise prevails on some mountain paths. After the branch for Šumik from gravel after a while I cross the bridge which is supposed to be the longest mountain bridge in Slovenia then slowly reach Mali Šumik. Carefully I descend to the waterfall itself. Steel cables that are remains of old bridge can help here. Then I continue past Verna stream to Veliki Šumik. Up to here the path isn't hard, some pegs and wire rope and somewhat harder passages and of course needed caution, otherwise nothing special. In the forest it's a bit cold, in summer probably a real oasis against heat. After enjoying the waterfall beauties then starts somewhat harder path to Bajgota. It's like some easy 'via ferrata', which of course shouldn't cause problems to average hiker who has at least some experience with secured paths. Maybe a bit more awkward in reverse direction (this approach to waterfall is also more popular). At Bajgota I head towards Koča na Šumiku but it was unfortunately closed. So I go back and towards Areh. From gravel soon branches off mountain path. It first rises steeply then goes more or less level with occasional ascents and descents. Path just before Areh crossed by roe deer. Unfortunately it started getting dark slowly, so from Areh to cable car I go along the road. Also on road I see two roe deer! Must be very adventurous to drive there at night. To cable car I arrive a bit before 7:30. Since I had time till 8 (descent ride) I also stopped at Belvue, where on menu I find: "Polhograjski autumn platter with black radish and dried tomato". Well let's see what that is. Since not expensive I order it. Well, the platter also contained cheese and prosciutto which I'd expect more somewhere in Primorska. Important of course that it was good, especially washed down with beer. When I arrive down with cable car I head to forest at parking where I hid the bike in the morning incidentally. In dark I barely find it! Then through Pekre, Limbuš and Ruše back to Smolnik and car.

Even today the path along Lobnica enchanted me again with its tranquility. Morning started anyway with clearing parking for the car which I left a bit before the place where signposts from Gornjakova street direct us towards waterfalls. All streams we cross on the way are mostly frozen over, some snow over ice, so crampons to Mali Šumik I didn't need. But later I put them on when crossing slopes towards V. Šumik. Snow is in first half of path up to 30cm, between both waterfalls locally even over waist. Waterfall was today all covered with fresh snow, so I had feeling like staring at snowy slope. Track I ended under V. Šumik, so further across gully and towards protections there is none. Back to start I returned same way. For me definitely one of nicer tours in our area, especially if conditions or time don't allow something else.

As usual to Šumik after work and it went super, bird chirping, song of Lobnica in its gorge up to little Šumik when thunder started. I decide to turn back and downpour comes, then sprinting on the path ruined by motorized beasts for log hauling to macadam (slippery). There I find a small overhang, sit down and wait for it to pour out and it does. Then slowly to the car at asphalt and sun's out before I reach it. Eventful.

Many take Šumik as a tourist spot like Rinka waterfall. A couple of minutes' walk from car to waterfall, few pics, cold drink and that's it, usually people to whom mountaineering is completely foreign. So I think warnings are spot on, especially since Pohorje is just one "molehill"......

Unexpected gift from boss lady who shortened my "shift" by 2 hours, had to use it. So I headed to Pohorje right in "ibercug". Classic along Lobnica valley to big Šumik. Path except little mud from rain and also wood hauling o.k. Peeked left and right along path a bit, well for a stew maybe two gathered (mushrooms of course).

If anyone is heading these days to the Big Šumik waterfall, the bridge has been washed away, so passage from Little Šumik to Big is not possible.

Access to big Šumik from Little Šumik direction still not possible (at least with kids), no footbridge yet, washed away by 2012 autumn flood. From Bajgota to big Šumik at top of cables broken dry spruce leaning nicely on another tree waiting for right wind gust to fall. All not proud for path maintainer.

@Stamp path is passable but wet and icy in some parts. Small crampons welcome. Šumik hut open (former Gozdarski dom). Highly recommend

Little snow or minimal (13.01), path solidly passable, but caution needed due to ice, esp. over streams (went without crampons). Hut at Šumik has food too.
