Well, besides LS, regarding high boots, I also have older Planika Forester which are very comfortable but quite worn-out and pretty soft...

Obviously primoza thinks the actual user "Kanta" is some xy kljukec who logged in to the portal and pretends to be "Tadej Lesjak" from LD Podbrdo.

Or maybe someone smoked too much. cool

Btw primoza, I know some jagrs and believe most of them do fine in the hostel, but not at all in the mountains.

@žiga: Btw primoza, I know some jagrs and believe most of them manage just fine in the hostel, but in the mountains not even close.

Yep, that's why mountaineers sometimes get nicely pranked velik nasmeh

Well Kanta just normally asked for advice. Here I really don't see anyone making fun, unless it's some weird humor I don't get... zmeden

No, anyway, some here obviously have an allergy to beginners, so for now best thanks to all who helped me with your advice and knowledge. If I need anything else, I'll check in.

Small update if anyone's interested in how I'm progressing:

Today I met a gentleman who is a guide at the local mountaineering club. We chatted a bit, he showed me the self-belay system and how to use it.
We agreed that if the weather is good, we'll go this week on Gradiška Tura so I get a bit of a feel for how it is in the rocks and so the gentleman can see how I behave in the rocks or at height.

Someone has to show you, it's very hard to learn by yourself or it takes much longer. Good luck nasmeh

I was today in the Tolmin Mountains and descended this ferrata path, it's short, airy, but far from being comparable to the Kopiščarjeva, Jubilejna, or Hanzova paths. The climbing part is about 100 vertical meters, I think. I met a family with three kids during the climbing section.

Hi,
I'd ask if someone can recommend nice hiking literature - handbook or similar. Beginner basics to start, then onward... Thanks!

Once you get the basics then: Tine Mihelič - Julijske Alpe and Kamniško Savinjske Alpe, and map and off to the tour, first lower and easier so from the description you see how the author describes individual difficulties and then progression of difficulty. For tours marked difficult and very difficult, I still recommend for starters someone who has some mileage behind them and knows the stuff. Later it will flow on its own nasmeh

No, yesterday we went on Gradiška Tura, the feeling is phenomenal. Pure enjoyment, although the "climbing part" was very short. The self-belay kit is also OK, though I have to say that after a while it got a bit annoying because the pitons are placed so densely that you have to clip every 2 steps.

For later, I'll see how and what. Next month the guide with whom I went to Gradiška has a guided ascent to Visoka Ponca, I'll probably join that.
Meanwhile, I'll try to go somewhere else, of course if the weather is good.

what? cool velik nasmeh zadrega

you're already a pure pro. Clip every fifth piton, less annoying and faster..

Next time talking to Vipavci, I'll suggest they for God's sake change the distance between pitons!velik nasmeh

Well, I'm not used to it and didn't even look, but I concentrated on climbing and it yanked me back often.
I didn't say it's wrong. Just my whim.

There'll be time to get used to it.

Right, first time I tried it, it's something new for me. When I was little the seatbelt in the car annoyed me too, now that I'm used to it there are no more problems.

What happened to me on Gradiška was that I didn't monitor what was happening with the clips but focused on climbing and it often "yanked me back", so I had to go back a bit to clip.

Nothing serious, I expect the "problem" will resolve with practice.

Those self-belay kits with just rope are so-so, I have this one at home: http://www.kibuba.com/Plezalna-oprema/Samovarovanje/Samovarovalni-kompleti?pID=2078

Excellent self-belay kit, but the price is also 100 euros if buying for the first time, otherwise 80 euros.
