Probably 5 years after first use? That's roughly the case for climbing ropes...if you don't destroy it before jezik

If you don't use it much and keep the rope in a dry, dark place, the usage period extends too

Busterman, I agree, but with some heavier guy I wouldn't stretch this time-wise too much mežikanje

Hi all.

I'm interested in how you started gaining experience in the mountains?

Especially the beginnings of those who weren't in mountaineering since childhood and didn't have friends or acquaintances to go on tours with velik nasmeh

Any advice, story or direction would mean a lot to me.

Best, Jancika

Go first to smaller hills, then always higher. Attend some course on safe movement in the mountains that mountaineering societies organize.
It will go gradually. mežikanje

Some attendance at mountaineering society courses will surely be useful. Start with lower ones and go to higher ones, or the path difficulty and height difference is more important. There are also lower peaks with higher difficulty. Best to start in home areas if there are suitable hills for the beginning. Many hills in Notranjska and Primorska are suitable for the start, relatively low, non-precipitous, paths wide etc. E.g. Slivnica, Slavnik, Vremščica etc. Also in Dolenjska and Pohorje something can be found. In Zasavje the hills are quite steep, sometimes precipitous, but still accessible. Even in the Alps there are very easy peaks (e.g. Kranjska reber). It depends from hill to hill. Also in Škofljeloško-Cerkljansko there is variety. Also in Polhograjci, which despite their height are quite steep and some give the feeling of "mountain ascent" (Grmada, Tošč). Depends from hill to hill. Here above are descriptions and pics. Look and decide. Say, start with one-hour hikes to suitable hills. You can also go with a mountaineering society in the end when they have a suitable hike for you.

I think @Jancika is asking how we started, not what all to do. My story is very atypical for what is widely promoted, namely after a few hills in Polhograjci and Škofjeloško hribovje a colleague invited me to Triglav....nothing less than from Vršič velik nasmeh it was supposed to be two days anyway. I was completely inexperienced and had no idea where he was taking me and to not bore you we somehow ended up under the front window, of course not on the south side but on Kopiščarjeva!! eek I still remember the surprised looks of hikers on Prisojnik ridge that we asked which mountain we were climbing at all. zadrega So we decided for descent back to Vršič and bus home, next week we finally shortened at least the approach to Triglav and started in Vrata...nothing less than through Plemenice. Of course I promised the colleague I'd kill him if there were too many pitons mežikanje, good thing there was fog so couldn't see too far down. We reached the summit and down too, colleague is still alive and I also haven't stopped going to mountains, it's been almost 20 years. So I say sometimes you need a bit of courage and it works that way too. Of course starting surely best in company of some experienced who can help with advice and time passes faster. nasmeh

Best, B

I started with my dad. And I don't even remember much how it started. I think it was at about 4 or 5 Nanos via steep from Razdrto. And at 7 Mangart from Mangart saddle via Italian route. If it had been like @Ben rescuers would probably have dragged me off the path because I'd probably have stopped there since I'm more "allergic" to ropes. A person sometimes thinks too much. As a kid you climb where it's possible as long as there is energy. Definitely better if someone else is with you, especially for beginners. Many of them go alone too, but most of those know themselves, their abilities and the mountains.

I was a bit over 20 years old when I started with easy ascents. Every year I ramped up the difficulty; at somewhat difficult marked paths, excessive weight of 115kg at average height hindered me badly (in high school gained 50kg and alone upward would go, today could have close to 150kg, in elementary normal 65kg). Tried my best to climb somewhere, but fatigue was too great. Wanted to go to Triglav, arranged with some and they canceled last week.zadrega Tears of sadness almost overwhelmed me. With PD automatically out because need at least 2, if not 3 days, and wouldn't wait. So started reading healthy nutrition portals, after 10 months lost 40kg (of which already 6 years holding target kg). Then after slimming in summer set off (solo) from Krma to Triglav, joy indescribable when finally reached Triglav. With heart and longing for mountains, still continue mountaineering path, now choosing very hard pathless routes, in winter also like venturing into mountains, Triglav 9x. Always like going to Triglav because saved my life. Before weight almost lay in bed and to today question where would be. Then doc measured 170/95 pressure, back pains, nosebleed if did something, cramps after effort .... now don't have, as reborn.

Hi
What do you recommend to a beginner alpinist for the first tour? Fitness is no problem (I regularly cycle, run, hike in the hills (not mountains, so beginner in this area)), mainly interested due to safety. Soon heading to vacation in Kranjska Gora, thought of e.g. Mala Mojstrovka or Mangart via ita. route. Any suggestion? Thanks

This is not alpinism, you are not a beginner alpinist, but a beginner mountaineer..
Being an alpinist is another "level"

Hello everyone,

looking for more info how and where to learn safe hiking in mountains but ... can't find! Don't doubt that forumers can help me nasmeh

Hiking in mountains is my long wish but further or higher than some Nanos haven't managed for various reasons.

Now when finally diligently building fitness, ran into problem because don't dare any other path except those marked 'easy' on Hribi.net since really no experience high mountains and don't want to rush into trouble.

Would like gradually to acquire basic technical knowledge enough so not too worried and feel know what doing and sufficiently prepared (and can e.g. go on 'partly demanding' and 'demanding' paths ... very demanding and those with climbing probably never).

Can't sign up for organized trips/courses because job with unpredictable schedule ... so what remains to learn safe movement in high mountains?

Thanks for help!

Definitely - at least at the start of your high mountain paths - advise path in organized group or under professional guidance.
Can join many societies on their mountain paths, before signing for tour just explain problem with work schedule, surely will understand your situation. nasmeh

Exactly as predecessor wrote, organized trips with PD. Slowly mileage will build up and on each tour it will be easier.

Or go with some more experienced together on some tour (not too hard at start), if you know some?
