Tips for a multi-day trip

Print
miha1886. 08. 2011 18:59:44
Hello,

My girlfriend and I have decided to go on a 3-day trip along the paths of the Soča front http://www.slovenia.info/?pohodnistvo=329&lng=1 . This is our first multi-day tour and we're asking for some advice on what to take with us (besides the basic things to wear and eat ).

Since the vacation is longer than three days (actually we have another 7 days after this first tour) and we'd like to comb through the Bovec area and explore the beauties of the Soča, and visit Rabelj Lake, please give some tips on where to usefully spend your time hiking....

Best regards.

Miha

Hello! My wife and I spent three days in Kobarid, slept in X-point (hostel) and wandered around, also on Soča front paths. Most info you get at www.potmiruvposočju.si 1 Enjoy!

miha188 area around Bovec and surroundings you won't be bored. Definitely recommend some activity on Soča, best canyoning. Also worth walking some part of Soča trail where you can see sights like Soča gorges, source of Soča etc. Also nice cycling paths in area, lots of options for hikes to hills and visits to surrounding pastures (Mangart pasture, Pl. Krnica,...) Worth seeing various military objects, cemeteries along the path well marked.
I return there every year for a day and every year it's too soon to go home.sad face Best is to get tourist map Bovec. Everything marked and described on it. Best regards and lots of enjoyment.

We go already 4th year to Trento on vacation. Since we have two kids, kids prefer Trento over sea. Always something turns up, either to some hills around plenty, also easy ones, can go visit waterfalls, which around Soča not lacking. We go camping to camp which is also pleasure. Always something found and as I say we go 4th year never bored and every day find some path one day hill next day easier and waterfall visit. You will see you will always find something go to Bovec info center and some map and you will have nice time. lp

As the predecessors have already written, you really have things to do in Bovec and surroundings. Regarding mountains, I suggest you check the guidebooks Western Julian Alps and Mountains above Soča, where you'll surely find something for yourselves...
Definitely don't miss swimming in Rabelj Lake and that on its western (less crowded) part...
Enjoy your vacation.

ZADNJICA !!! Park at Log in Trenta, walk past the barrier to the end of the valley, walk steeply up 20 minutes to the chapel at the start of Komar. Back to the barrier, there towards Pogačnik House less than 20 minutes and right to Pinja - waterfall, pool. Refreshment in crystal clear and arctic mežikanje cold water, then at the end also visit TNP museum at Log and something to eat in the nearby inn - recommend bio pasta with eco wild garlic, yum. And a glass of bio beer, hits the spot perfectly.

Hello!
It would be right to start the trip at the Kobarid museum, if you haven't visited it yet. Then to Drežnica, where there's also a private war museum. On the way, also check out Kozjak waterfall.
Then to Bovec. Of course without visiting Kluž and the upper fortress Fort Hermann, it won't work. The first day will pass too quickly like that.
Next day ascent to Rombon and third day to Polovnik.

For accommodation and all the nice things you can still see in the upper Soča valley on the link: http://www.bovec.si/

Nice weather and pleasant days to you.

How do you plan to return from Tolmin to Bohinj?
For three days it's good to have blister plasters, sunscreen, hat and as light a backpack as possiblenasmeh
Along the Soča the nicest things in my opinion are:
Kozjak waterfall, Zaslap pasture above Drežnica Plains and Polovnik (huge WWI), swimming in Nadiza, Bavšica valley and Zadnje Trente with Zapotok pasture at the head, silence of Na Skali village and Čisti vrh. All more easily reachable. The nicest spots in Posočje are often hidden so it's good to get a bit lost and just explore.
For overnight stays try the hut at Mangart Saddle, at the source of Soča and in Lepena. They are cheap and basically starting points for tours. For example the autumn hike to Mangart Saddle on foot charmed me.
Otherwise everything there is super.

From Tolmin or Most na Soči we'll return by train back to Bohinjska Bistrica - where we'll also leave the car.
In Bovec and at Rabelj Lake we'll probably just camp.
We're setting off on Thursday.

Oh one more thing I'm curious about, what's the difficulty for conquering Rombon?

Miha, everything is on this page, list of mountains - Rombon, you get described paths, and choose the one that suits you, but they are long and thirsty if it's hot.nasmeh
Best!

Even the Italians haven't conquered Rombon, yet someone who doesn't even know paths to the mountains would.

@miha188,

something's not clear to me...I added a link for accommodation and additional views for you, yet right under the post you're asking where to find cheap stays?? While driving through the valley, besides the road and your dear, glance at some roadside sign too.

Furthermore, on the web all paths are nicely described and pictorially equipped, difficulty is also listed. A hiking guide will definitely come in handy if you don't have one yet. A map won't hurt either.
http://www.hribi.net/gora/rombon/1/414.

And a question for you; "What have you hiked so far to question Rombon's difficulty?" And linking to your intro post where you ask about extra gear besides usual, it all seems odd to me.
You know, a mountaineer who knows where he's heading, especially knows the mountains, always carries standard gear that's more than basic clothes and food.

Maybe reconsider and enjoy Trenta's other beauties with your dear, leave high peaks for later. No offense.

Thanks for your kind replies, some were really "kind", actually I've done some hikes and know how to find descriptions online, still asking for some advice - experience on the desired ascent, if that's hard to understand then no need for advice and other comments.

Irina, for you too. I checked the website, but still interested where to get some cheap accommodation not listed online, from experience there's plenty everywhere and sometimes you don't know the place and ask others for a tip.

Thanks and be well.

Call Mrs. Slavko in Trenta at tel: 05 3889 385. Zadnjica Valley is within reach from there (see what turbo says), all Trenta's beauties too.

miha188,

whatever anyone wrote to you was with good intentions. And if you really go to Rombon, heed the water advice thoroughly.
If I were going, I'd start before six past the former barracks, or from Kluže. Stated times in Julijci aren't approximate and apply to fit ones with minimal breaks; after first hour 5 min.....etc. Note photography slows you extra, can add an hour right away.

So tomorrow you go, have a good time.

P.s. Still didn't say where you've been wandering.

He doesn't even know where to go, camping by Rabeljsko Lake isn't allowed anyway, except in bushes if foresters don't catch you.

Rombon is off, we'll first see how fitness goes after this first tour.
Trenta we'll surely visit and enjoy (really can't be bad since you praise it so much nasmeh ).

Really thanks for tips.

See you nature lovers.
