With wife we'd like to bag Vajnež, Potoški Stol and both Stols. Car at Urbas. Please for advice on:
1. How far from Valvasorjev dom to Urbas for circular tour?
2. Is it smarter to return to car same way as ascent?

Better to start tour at Valvasorjev dom. Path length from Valvasorjev dom to Urbas vs planned route negligible, ca 2 km.

Since you obviously know the Karavanke very well, I kindly ask for one more piece of information. Given that we are well over 60, we are of course very interested in the elevation gain. Approximately how much will there be on the mentioned tour?

More detailed: Valvazorjev dom (1181 m) - Stol summit (2236 m) 1080 m ascent, then descend to the saddle between Stol and Potoški Stol and continue on a nice traverse path that gradually ascends to Potoški Stol (2014 m), then descend a bit again and continue on the marked path about 100 m ascent to Vajnež (2104 m).
From Vajnež descend on the path marked with yellow markers to the concrete bivouac and on a very steep path through the forest to Urbas. From Urbas on the road back towards Valvazorjev dom it's a drag, but this loop is the most optimal.

A few years ago we chose the opposite direction, first from Valvazor towards Urbas and under the ridge. Also nice

The only annoying ascent is on the scree to Stol. Easier down the scree.

We just got home. It was a very very strenuous tour. I admit! If I were a few years younger, I wouldn't say anything. And yet we made it. For icing on the cake we added the 2,017 m high Mali vrh besides the listed peaks.
