Nice greeting! Does anyone know what the conditions are like on Vajnež and the traverse to Stol?
Best regards, everyone

Today I ascended from the Trilobit home and further via Medji dol to Vajnež. The path is fully dry, some snow only at the summit itself. I descended past the bivouac and Hrašenska planina to planina Stamare. From there via little-visited path through the valley Za Kraščevcem, back to the starting point. Regards, Tadej

Trip to Vajnež is otherwise very nice.. but bivouac condition is condemnable!!! quickly realize you don't live among cultured people who call themselves mountaineers or alpinists... won't write where I'd put some, but even pigsty better kept... Thanks for interior pic at least I know I'll never bivouac there even if it itches so badly... Criticism also to maintainers.. in my opinion nobody cleaned that for at least 5 years...

On 30.10.2011 we did a loop Javorniški Rovt-Pl. Stamare-Hrašenska pl.-Vajnež-Rida-Pl. Seča-Javorniški Rovt. Fog in the valley, above 1500m paradise. Snow on the path just a sample. More on descent from Seča back to Javorniški Rovt, but path well trodden. All the time enjoyed wonderful views of Julian Alps above the "sea".

Also 31.10.2011 weather cloudless and magnificent views, pure enjoyment. As for the bivouac, condition no better than last year, unfortunately. Tour started and ended at Urbas, on path only patches of snow here and there (from bivouac on), road to spring surprisingly good.

After yesterday's crowd on Ratitovec before work, today I wanted more solitary path with lots of sun and Vajnež was choice. Start at Javorniški Rovt, after few mins turn right to Pl. Stamare. Beginning good track, later fairly trodden path, unmarked of course, needs attention. Shady path, after one hour at sunny Pl. Stamare with great panorama on Julijce. Clear path steeply up to Hrašenska planina, from there not far to Kamnitnik, indistinct peak by marked path. Due to cold and fatigue skipped Vajnež, I jumped to M. Vrh, some forepeak. No frost, super views and spotted some people. Then descent to Pl. Seča, crossed couple snow patches, nothing special. To car another half hour, path bad, lots fallen trees, seems few hikers here. Great day, nice loop..

To Valvazor hut by car no problem. Along forest road to junction to Planina Stamare and on to Hrašenska planina. Continue to Planina Seča, then turn right, some bushwhacking through scrub and reach under Belščica. In direction of summer path continue to summit. Weather threatening a bit, so descend towards bivouac on Belščica and on to Urbas and Valvazor. Snow mostly dry, sometimes crust that usually doesn't hold. Descent from bivouac to valley in lower part awkward, as path icy, snow too little. Crampons and ice axe recommended.

Today start at Valvazor, then past bivouac to Vajnež, from there to Potoški Stol, back to bivouac and same way back to Valvazor. 1. path to bivouac mostly dry, spots icy... from bivouac on snow, with occasional dry patches... No crampons today, easy... 2. bivouac condition still same as 2009 (from reading) - catastrophic. And here criticism from me too... to climbers who allowed this, and maintainers 3. morning weather in valley cloudy, after start only sun... windy on Vajnež summit, on Potoški Stol real martinčkanje 4. another wonderful day above 2,000

If you don't know these areas, you've missed solitary strolls on scenic grassy peaks. On Valvazor most go to Stol, but if you continue, you'll discover a series of beautiful pastures, Potoško for example, Stamare, Hrašensko and more, Belščica e.g. Go see, it's really nice. Now above 1700 there's still some snow, but interestingly the ridge is dry. To the bivouac under Belščica it's practically dry, then straight after the bivouac dry to the ridge and almost entirely dry ridge to the summit. It was just a bit too windy, but nice views outweighed it. First bunches of spring flowers are already delighting the eyes. There'll be no time for spring fatigue, it seems. But there will be for all other spring annoyances; it seems

We start at the Trilobit hut next to a nice artificial lake filled by the Javornik stream. It's used for electricity production. Behind the hut we go on a poor track, in spots we think they logged wood. After about 10 minutes a sign directs us left to Planina Seča. At first through quite devastated forest, a few times we have to detour around fallen trees. Higher the path is nicer, but quite steep. To Planina Seča about two hours. On the pasture there's a hunter's hut and some ruins - I don't know what the building was for. Before the pasture we turn right to Vajnež. After about half an hour we reach an extensive scree which we cross, it's in a kind of semicircle dropping into a cirque and those are the Ride, after which the path got its name. After less than two hours from the pasture we are under the foot of Vajnež. A poor sign directs us upwards. To here the path is marked. Up we go straight over the grass, because it's basically pathless. At the beginning the path is visible, but it soon gets lost in the grass. We won't get lost, because we see the summit. On the top there's the border and an Austrian cross with their box, but it's empty. Ours has a completely new logbook for entries and next to it on the rock there's a stamp - praiseworthy. Even in fog, as it was today, orientation up or down isn't difficult. Today you really couldn't see even ten meters ahead. I got back to the path just a bit more to the left than I went up. I must repeat it from some other direction, of course in better weather.

You're right, dear heinz. There are six. But this one isn't! Conditions on the path change and it's right to describe them. L.P.

Our guide Vili said nicely today: The goal of us guides is not to bring you to the summit via the expected path, our goal is to bring you home safely. That's why we gave up Skalaška path to Vajnež today, replaced it with path over Rido, but still reached the top. Weather completely against the forecast, still raining in the morning, from planina Seča onwards dense cold fogs were dragging, windy and occasionally drizzling. But we didn't give up. No views on Vajnež, but we chatted more, even in gloves. Returned past bivouac under Belščica and then unmarked path to Potoška planina, short stop there for liquids, then unmarked path over Spodnje rovte down to marked path to Koroška Bela, bus picked us up near Acronija. Extremely many horses grazing on these pastures, and sheep too, of course. Skalaška path remains for next time when something is visible and not all greasy. PD Medvode hikers will find a way to check it up close.
