Veliki vrh above Matkov Kot 1539m

Veliki vrh sticks out from the ridge. I bet you haven't stepped on it yet ...
(That's what Volk wrote in the description of Krnička gora)

He's right!
Few are those who stood on this peak. Early in the morning I change plans and cross the planned route and decide for this peak. When I park in Matkov Kot in the morning, all peaks are in fog. Behind the hunting hut I rush up the slope. I go my own way... When I reach the ridge after a very steep incline, I almost tip over into the fog across the narrow ridge into Logarska. I explore the ridge a bit and then head where Veliki vrh should be. The path along the ridge isn't easy and requires great caution.
When a rocky mass appears from the fog, I realize it simply won't go. I tackle it too far east and soon a vertical wall blocks the path. I scramble along grassy ledges and don't even think how I'll return here?
Then the trick is revealed, I immediately see where to climb to the top. I make it and finally stand on the summit.
I'm not afraid of the drop-offs at all, since everything is in fognasmeh
I descend very carefully and below note a barely visible trail. I follow it. Soon I lose it and then search for logical passages.
I descend a steep gully and close the loop cck. 50m from where I started in the forest in the morning (I was proud of my orientation)
Another half hour and I'm back at the hunting hut.
Fog still envelops the peaks..
nice morning!!
Regards

Today repetition in cold morning, warm forenoon, in lush spring bloom and with a bit of scrambling in the bushes before the summit (memory from last year a bit faded)

Nice spots... ...very nice!
Today I went to the hunting hut.... Not for above 2000m - it was already brewing up there...

Thanks!
No, because I was at the summit already the second time, but first from Matkov Kot. First we went from the hunting hut along the steep road, at the junction right and at the end of the road straight up towards the saddle. Right from there the sun shone through the forest.
From the saddle onwards I knew the path. It still tempts me, the approach along the ridge from the start of Logarska valley.
But I left that for another time.

I see you used the same approach as me. I still miss some things in these areas too...

geppo as an expert for this area I ask you, is there any cave here?
I noticed some small holes, I'm interested in some bigger things?eek
Thanks and regards

The largest entrance to the "cave" (I didn't look for access to that cave) is on the other side - Zabrložnica/Savinjek.
Otherwise I still have quite a bit unexplored in these interesting parts of Logarska. When the whole Logarska is jammed with cars and hikers, it's peaceful in these spots...

You're right and thanks for the reply geppo.
Yeah, the Matkov end seems similar to Zadnjica to me... ...in both ends you find some peace and fairly pristine naturenasmeh So, it seems we all like to return to these ends....velik nasmeh

It didn't give me peace! On Saturday we did a family hike from the Logar sisters via Orlovec, Kipernik and Veliki vrh and descended to the Dom planincev in Logarska valley. We started at the chapel at the beginning of the valley, continued past a nice wooden hut into the forest and soon came across a nice forest path that took us diagonally right to the ridge. At the beginning of the ridge we first had to push through low, dry spruce scrub, then through the forest, where we found a path that we followed along the ridge practically all the way to Veliki vrh. Walking along the ridge was a real fairy tale, although the ridge is only occasionally open.
From Veliki vrh only a steep descent to the saddle and left down to the valley followed. On the descent from the saddle after about 300m you need to find a visible old clearing diagonally right, follow it to the end and soon at the end of the forest clearing find the hunting observation post and zigzag path that takes us diagonally right to Dom planincev.

I hope my tendon heals and I can still hike a few things in these parts. Even though the ridge isn't very scenic it's wonderful, varied and in autumn mists really mysterious...

Path in summit section frozen, sometimes hard to follow and as dprapr wrote not panoramic. But when the ridge opens, nature puts on displayvelik nasmeh

I've also looked at this peak, I have it planned. Your descriptions will help a lot, is there a variant to Matkovo okno?
Best regards nasmeh

Yes, but descend to Zabrložnica and then from there to the window. Haven't heard anyone go entire ridge to Matkovo okno..

Geppo - as you once suggested we do a joint trip. Maybe go sometime (suggest early spring) along this ridge to check if passable. Not many fans for such overgrown hills and pathless areas! But special charm wandering these low yet solitary peaks. Don't recharge batteries just on Kanceljni but also "Logar ridge"!

We'll arrange. This year not much in mountains because of torn Achilles tendon in cast. These areas interest me more and more.
Really few enthusiasts for such pathless wandering, fighting brush, finding passages...

Even too many; sometimes deliberately get lost for pathless, because so many unmarked small paths. zmeden
