Visoka Ponca - Strug - Vevnica

Yesterday, 13.8.22, traversed this ridge. Start at Belopeška Lakes, then over Middle and Rear Ponca, Strug and Vevnica towards Mangart. In this direction in my opinion much easier along the ridge towards Vevnica. From the saddle before Strug to the top someone installed ca 100m prusik, which isn't even needed. On the ridge all descriptions mention and old pegs indicate retreating to the Italian side for difficulties, while actually sometimes easiest directly along the ridge or even Slovenian side, just gotta search a bit. Ferrata to Vevnica in solid condition, on one tricky passage prusik added for help. From Bivacco Busettini then over grasses towards Mangart, where needed to watch out a bit due to scree on grassy ledges.

During ascent to Sr. Ponca the weather does not look promising

On grassy ledges towards Mangart, view back towards the section of the path that descends into Huda škrbina

The most annoying part of the whole tour: descent to the saddle on wet slippery slabs

Also last year's (August) tour Ponca-Strug-Vevnica-Strug-Ponca.
Tour in both directions and pics follow accordingly. Condition of protections visible on pics. Rock on penultimate pic was wobbly, if someone stepped on it with half to full weight it would probably come loose.

congrats........this ridge gets "on my nerves"....but alone I don't have the balls for the traverse, although I was on Vevnica a few years ago. Maybe find summer company for traverse. nasmeh

@panda - if you're, say, a mountaineer, some climbing is no problem and no vertigo, just go boldly. Super route, no issues with orientation and passages, all nicely follows. Traversed from Vevnica direction to Poncas and back to Belopeška Lakes. But it's long velik nasmeh

Too short a day for the long ridge. I extended it a bit during my visits with start at Belopeška Lakes, past Zacchi hut to Ponca ridge, Vevnica, bivouac on the edge above Zagače, Mangart, Nogara bivouac and back to the car. velik nasmeh

The two of us, with my friend, spiced it up even more (supposedly the only ones so far?), starting in Planica, past the ski jump, over Kucerjev ridge, to Little Rateška Ponca, along S ridge to High, Middle, Rear, Strug, Vevnica (not on the secured one), V Koncu peak, Kotova peak and from Kotovo saddle to Tamar... exactly 24 hours mežikanje

I learned that the military unit Battaglione Alpini added some new ropes from the exit of the new ferrata to Strug "via Kugy allo Strugova" on the ridge path "via degli Alpini" in both directions towards Ponca and Vevnica, on Vevnica there are (and will be) also the old steel cables as they already published shortly in another thread mežikanje

No need to open new thread. Yesterday from Tamar to Middle Ponca and further to Strug. Beautiful weather and great views. On Italian side quite some snow, in the morning had to kick steps. Two Italians came via Kugy to Strug, otherwise met no one.
