This weekend I'd go to High Ponca from Belopeška lakes via normal route, zadrega return via Middle Ponca to Tamar. Does anyone have info on path conditions and if there's still snow somewhere complicating passages.zmeden

In Tamar lower part in forest some fallen trees. Bypasses made, slippery in wet, no problem dry, no snow.

We too yesterday from Planica past the Tamar hut to Middle Ponca, we saved High for next time and rather enjoyed longer on Middle Ponca. Views phenomenal, the path itself quite steep.
in Planica they are working full out1

From the upper lake I set off along the macadam path to r. Zacchi. From there to the Ponca Grande direction to the junction, which directs right for the normal approach and left for the ferrata to Ponca. The path first crosses a gully from which I already see the cables tensioned in the wall. All to the top without problems, return via the normal path back to the lakes and home.
In this wall the self-belay kit is useless if there is not enough strength in legs and arms. It won't pull us along the cable, we have to pull it - protects only the falljezik

Are there any markers on this path?
like
bagi5. 08. 2015 14:43:23
@janez ... yes, it's marked. Higher up there's a nicely marked junction where the path branches left towards the ferrata to High Ponca. From it you can continue on the Slovenian marked path towards Little Ponca. Just before it the path branches right down to the start. That way you'll loop it nicely nasmeh

bagi - probably you meant descent from High towards Middle and not Little?

Today on High Ponca from Belopeške Lakes past Zacchi hut and via ferrata to the top and via normale back. Path without special features, except some loose and torn cables which don't cause problems. Great views from the top. Greeting to the family with whom we met a bit below Planiška Saddle on my descent. More in photos.

I know I'm annoying but I'll still ask bagi and kgregor: is there anything marked on the path from the ladder onwards (bagi's pic 9) to the top? Otherwise I know the path from Zacchi (via normale) and of course the Slovenian path from Middle to High Ponca.

Almost no markers because they faded. But you follow the cairns. From the ladder to the top not much more, about 15 min.

kgregor, where did you find the stamp, we obviously missed it?? we thought that there just isn't one, like elsewhere.

@janez.novak - as @MANGRT wrote, the markers are quite sparse, faded or almost none, but the cairns show the path well and are easy to see.

@annaj - the stamp is "hidden" in the summit log box, which however has no logbook.

Today to Visoka Ponca from Belopeška Lakes. In the end everything turned out a bit differently than planned. To Rif. Zacchi without issues, then on the wide excellently marked path onwards. It started looking a bit strange, namely the path going too far left. No signs for Visoka Ponca either, but no panic nasmeh A bit below the saddle we luckily met an Italian couple asking where we were going and after the answer to Ponca "that won't work.. unless you really want to climb". Hm nothing... still those 5 min to the saddle to realize it's really not possible and then said "who doesn't have it in the head has it in the feet". Back to Rif. Zacchi 460 m lower and try luck elsewhere. The real path to Ponca is indeed much worse marked than Alpe Adria Trail, but still I can't say poor marking is to blame for the mistake... just not attentive enough path following.
At the junction where the path splits to "usual" and ferrata again (not exactly as planned) left into ferrata. Well, ultimately better choice. Ferrata is quite interesting, not among the hardest, but not for those who don't like airier paths. Section before ferrata entry, crossing small scree (about 3 m) quite awkward, gravel under feet not looking stable. Ferrata seems newly redone recently. Quite new cable clipped into stainless bolts. Above ladder terrain awkward again, rocks crumbly, gravel under feet. Markings poorly visible there, but path followable, cairns in between.
Followed descent towards Planiška Škrbina and then via normale to Belopeška Lakes. On this path considerable caution needed again.
Italians met on the way surprised me with friendliness (usually not used to that), talked with several, many tips "crumbly there", "watch feet there",... Also met a couple who did that unnecessary detour to Vratca under Mala Ponca, one decided ferrata too much and didn't go up, the other did.
Otherwise quite a few people on path, most to Srednja Ponca.

we met and it seemed to us you got a bit lost because you were back too quickly. otherwise not a dead end, for us who don't do ferratas it was the right path to Mala Ponca. But I'm interested in that via normale path, what is it like? we're not really for climbing but we manage paths like, say, to Ledinski vrh via Slovenian route?
