Apart from that, while being followed from higher positions accessible only to them they send some stone your way, I haven't experienced them plotting anything against me. It's true though that with my behavior I didn't threaten them.nasmeh

How or when does the gondola from Neveje to Gilberti hut run ("timetable")?zmeden

Sometimes I'm surprised, because the internet offers almost everything, you just need a little effort; the timetable and prices can be found here: http://www.promotur.org/?id=741
As for my experiences with chamois, only good ones; males are not shy, females with young usually retreat or stay at a safe distance. Anyway, the animal senses who threatens it and who doesn't.

Yes, on the internet you really get all info, but for me only those in SLO language are useful. Well, I think I read correctly that the cable car runs until 6th September daily from 8.30 - 16.30 and then weekend 12 and 13 September. Thanks for the info. Best regards.

I'd like to go from Zaga to Kanin, but via V. Baba, Kamen, M. Kanin and further. Since I can't find path description nor condition, nothing—please if someone knows. On the map it looks like a nice tour, from the view from below too, probably few people on the path. Just hope it's not on the Italian side, as that would mean no fixed protection and, worse, not marked at all. Thanks in advance.

On the map it really looks nice, but up close it's not a pleasant experience. From Planina Baban there's usually very tall grass (more than a meter) in which there are lots of snakes, so it's not a pleasant feeling. I turned back to Žaga after the third one.

Ugh, I don't like snakes either, so I'll go straight from station D... Hope there are none there?!eek

Thanks.. Well, I'll have to buy the book too, really.. I don't feel like taking the cable car.. I'll think of something for a two-day tour around there Without meetings with snakes, of course.. But first I need to get rid of the flu so next weekend I'll be "free" of it velik nasmeh

krasovc, starting point at Žaga is one of the lowest in Julian Alps, so need to start early, path marked to below V. Babe, further markings poorer but rocky there and trail easy to follow. At saddle Med Baban you'll hit the High Rosojanska path, markings quite faded, mostly along border ridge, to Laška Planja no special issues, further need some climbing skills, no protection, exposed, small rockfall at one spot so bit annoying. Easier then from Mali to High Kanin.
Of course variant from Gozdec to Veliki Babanjski skedenj and to High... or from Gozdec to Veliki Dol direct to Kanin summit, lots of options, maybe best take Mihelič guide, all described there. Won't meet many people on these paths, most take gondola up effortlessly.

Triglavski, many thanks. Well, I'll see how the weather will be next weekend. Early start I'm used to. Since last week via Poncas to Vevnica I trained climbing and paths without protection, unmarked trails. Just hope it's not much worse. And we'll take some pics for use..

Since the weather was favorable at least today, I decided on a short trip; from Bovec I used the cable car, from station D casually to Skalarjeva Koča. There I met friendly keepers who were closing the hut today (so you know tomorrow they will just be packing, then it stays closed). After chatting I went to Dol, to Laška Planja, then along the ridge over Črni Vogel to Mali or Veliki Kanin. Weather good, unfortunately fog hindered me a bit (right where Triglavski wrote no markingsjezen). When I returned to the hut, nice weather again, though on the summit I had some sun time, at least for a pic..nasmeh. Nice tour, views to Bovec and Resia really beautiful.. I'll add the photo later...

Hello, I got info that via ferrata "Julia" on High Kanin from Saturday is open again, I read in the newspaper that one part of specialized Italian army even renovated it and they had opening last Saturday.

Hi!
Maybe someone knows if the path from the ski resort restaurant to Kanin is already snow-free? Last year on Aug 1 it was normally passable, though there were much more snowfalls then.

We used the weekend spent in Bovec (with Primorska friends) for High Kanin visit. From D station to Prestreljeniško okno and view it, from there to High Kanin. Followed Mali Kanin visit and return past Skalarjeva koča, one of friendlier huts (keepers incl.) here. At 16.00 descent to valley, trip ended in beautiful weather and good company. As for passability, the path has no problems, few snow patches just offer refreshment welcome in such heat.nasmehLp

Yesterday started at station D and continued to High Kanin and slept at Peter Skalar hut. As the predecessor mentioned, the caretakers are friendly and fun, recommend visit, mornings are anyway a fairy tale in the mountains, here a large family of chamois awaits you for a nicer day...next day-today- ascent to Prestreljenik, then descent to Prevala and through wonderful Krnica to station B. Really super this Kanin and despite unbearable heat that didn't spare the altitude, the views and path outweigh everything. Path is fully bp, so strudel at the hut, lots of walking options...

Hi,

I'm interested if anyone has done this circular variant already (somehow didn't find it on the forum). My husband and I plan to do this tour this weekend, wondering how much time the circular tour takes. To High Kanin it's marked 2.5 hours, but didn't see how much then to Peter Skalar hut. So we can organize due to thunderstorms forecasted for Saturday afternoon for now.

You can read everything on the description for High Kanin from D station. When returning there is at indistinct saddle under Hudim Vršič also sign for Peter Skalar hut. To hut approx 30 min, back to D station 45 min and it's circular path. Everything well marked.

Vinny interested in the entire loop, meaning descent from High Kanin to Zadnji dol and on to Veliki dol, and ascent to Peter Skalar hut. This loop normally done in 6-7 hours. In fog advise against the path.

Thanks for the info. We already reserved overnight stay at Peter Skalar hut. For circular we'll see - depending on weather.
