Velkavrh, on picture 5 I assume it's mountain clover. Rampions are too heavy for us, there are several very similar species. On picture 14 it's common yarrow. 15 reminds me of balloon gentian. For 16 there could be at least one more similar species: Gentiana prostrata (prostrate gentian). For short-leaved gentian the correct name is Gentiana favratii (round-leaved gentian). The first doesn't grow here, the second is very rare. I didn't know the term short-leaved, now I searched and found the connection of Latin names - some have G. favratii as a subspecies of G. brachyphylla. I met this gentian only once, on Krnčica. 25 is single-spiked drywort. 29 is not alpine oxeye but Leucanthemopsis alpina (alpine daisy). 32 is definitely not alpine cress. 34 is not Sieber's rampion but dark-leaved rampion, Phyteuma globulariifolium. 39 is not scaly rockcress, has too short/too wide leaves. Rather clustered, but poor picture. The edelweiss at the end seem to me single-flowered (C. uniflorum). I don't know, based on which feature you determined them as alpine. LP

Regarding zvončica's grintavec - yes the leaves are visible, I would also say it's shiny - no alternative. In velkavrh's case the leaves are really poorly visible or have narrower lobes, so it could also be common grintavec, which also has such calyx bristles. Thanks, Vito, for the kindness! kati1909, I hope you saw my answer about gentians on the previous page. LP

As I have written several times myself, recognizing little flowers based on image material is very difficult. Especially for us who are not professionally versed in this direction. So I most often just write the basic name, so as not to teach false faith. Stay healthy and enjoy these gifted warm days. And some more pictures from the path Rudno polje - Debeli vrh

malenka thanks! I always position myself at the end of the column to at least partially see mountain flowers along the path and I don't have time to look closely at the leaves. I really lack a good camera - I'll get one next year. Years ago I was looking for gentians. In my list I have twenty species recorded. Of course I haven't found many yet. I've never found for example the marsh one. I actually can't distinguish small gentians. But balloon, snow, Triglav, spring ones yes. The others no. I borrow the Flora Alpina handbook from the library and now I can't search for undetermined mountain flowers there. Short-leaved gentian-Gentiana brachyphylla I found in Hoppe's handbook - translated by Dr. Milan Lovka. I can't distinguish edelweiss - alpine and single-flowered seem very similar to me. Height is the same, flowers are multiple on stem for both species, leaves same length, both grow in such dense cushions. I know for exact determination I'd have to compare flowers and leaves of both and of course photograph them well. There are really good descriptions of mountain flowers in the Mala flora Slovenije handbook. Unfortunately I miss such a handbook also with good flower photos.

Velkavrh, you'll surely find marsh gentian by Lake Cerknica (for this year it's already late). I myself don't know edelweiss well, especially those that don't grow here. I can only compare web images, which species it resembles more. Here I noticed that alpine edelweiss should be much more woolly hairy, at least regarding non-flowering shoots. But such determination is of course not professional. LP

Malenka presents interesting mountain flowers to us. Triglav hawk's-beard I probably see often, but probably think it's alpine dandelion. Common one-flowered wintergreens I don't know. Bracted saxifrage I've been searching for many years, but can't find it. The literature even says it's common. It is supposed to grow even to 3400m. Grows on moist, stony, mostly on limestone soils, stony grasslands, snow hollows. Mr. Strgar also lists habitats, but I didn't find it there.

Velkavrh, I doubt you see Triglav dandelion often. It is really rare, I've hiked a lot in hills, but saw it only at Staničev dom. You can't confuse it with dandelion, as dandelion has bare cup (involucre) and at least a few cm high stem, which Triglav dandelion practically doesn't have - flower is practically on ground. Bracted saxifrage with us is not common, as it doesn't like limestone; find it e.g. in cirques below Mangart saddle (there also alpine monkshood and procumbent buttercup). Of my pics of this saxifrage only first from there, others from abroad.
