Malenka, how refreshing are the flower posts these days, as well as trees and ferns. Notes that they don't grow here are also welcome, although we can figure some out ourselves. But alpine rockjasmine interests me. I haven't seen it anywhere yet that it grows here too. So far I've found only the hairy and shaggy ones (finding the Swiss one would already be a trophy). I know some more species grow here. LP

Common hazel (Corylus avellana)

Species: Shrubs
Family: hazels

It is one of the most common deciduous shrubs around here.
It has entire, serrated leaves. Flowers are unisexual and develop before leafing. Male flowers are united in long hanging catkins, have 4 anthers each and no perianth leaves. Female flowers are on short shoots 1-5 together surrounded by bracts. We recognize them by the bright red stigmas peeking out of the 'bud'.
