No green ones, but blue. No plan to climb icefalls yet, but heard crampons last 20-30 years. So want purchase as cheap and quality as possible.

One tip please. How long an ice axe to buy for mountaineering, alpinism - classic ice axe. I won't climb with it. Some say it should reach the ankle with extended arm. Some say with extended arm backwards to middle between elbow and shoulder. What are the experiences and recommendations. Probably good if it's not too long already due to maneuvering on backpack. Aja, I'm 189cm tall. Thanks for the help.

You correctly figured out it's good not too long, but not for backpack maneuvering, but for the basic thing it's for, stopping..., in short no hoe needed, that's for garden bed

I looked at Black Diamond in Iglu, Raven model, if I'm not mistaken. The 65cm length seemed optimal to me too. Logically it seems better if slightly curved, better angle with ground for arrest. On backpack probably fits fine regardless of curvature. Thanks for advice.

check the price difference, I personally recommend Raveltik, what the jury says we'll see, it's important it's curved if not just walking... 30 euro difference, for that you get good gloves too. Best regards!

Geolog, I know you're a passionate climber from posts, but I need walking crampons for my needs. I don't know much so I'm asking. Can one walk with ice crampons or are walking crampons better for walking, which ones to take?

Take Grivel 10 or 12 pointers. Gully climbing ones useless for walking. Match your winter boots with auto or semi-auto crampons. Won't regret extra money for Grivel. Walks great, front points ideal length curve anatomy. Known Grivel from old forge tradition. Grivel first-class multiple-tempered steel.

hiking from Cassin C12, or Black Diamond Sabretooth Pro auto or semi, didn't see what boot? Cassin C14 mentioned because same price as BD. But for walking as you say buy hiking... Otherwise send shoe size and we'll talk further. Little money, lots of music

how can you say such stupidity that they are useless for walking?!

@GričarA: I agree with viharnik, Grivel has quality products, most new crampons come with heel rubber which is one of the best imho (patent repels snow) PS: not useless for walking (have G14), but climbing crampons somewhat heavier and worse grip on soft snow

Given that climbing crampons have front teeth curved and reinforced only forward and not downward, it's harder to walk with them, better for steep climbing though, everyone knows that. I also have old Cassin top crampons for ice climbing but with them on flat I wasn't exactly fast and agile in step. Not everything for everything, nor equipment.

what good are front teeth for walking on flat, can you tell me what function they have on flat..., so according to your logic we climbers take climbing ones up, and hiking ones in backpack for down or what

They have no function, but mainly hinder walking, while normal crampons don't. Definitely descents on return in easier routes are faster with normal crampons.

they don't hinder at all, true hiking ones have longer teeth and grip better on "sugar" but have we solved the dilemma? and you know what's another difference with climbing ones you can seriously injure yourself while with hiking ones no such crisis!
