I used today's nice afternoon weather for a "jump" to Zelenjak, which turned out to be a good decision. Weather and path dry, so the ascent was a pleasure. Start from Tinčkova Hut. In this part of the world I was completely alone - as far as people are concerned, only alpine choughs tirelessly begged me for crumbs. Today's afternoon will remain in deeper memory. Safe travels. heinz!!

Yesterday, on Saturday, visited Zelenjak. Approached it from neighboring Palec. Wonderful weather. Some snow still had to be crossed, just enough to get wet when it breaks under feet. Enjoying on Zelenjak, photographed three on Palec and another three coming to Zelenjak.

Left Ljubelj in blazing sun, parked at Ljubelj in light rain . Then, whatever will be will be, can't get wetter than wet , along path through forest to rescue road and along it to the hut. There it seemed a bit brighter, light rain turned to mist drizzle . To not cool off, and also thirsty, zipped past hut on ski slope towards Vrtača and soon at "junction" for Suho rušje. Pushing through narrow path through dwarf pines would not be noteworthy if not all nicely wet and emerged into the open quite damp . But... so what, no fog anymore, just high clouds with blue patches and fine view . Saw everything there is to see . Quickly under Zelenjak, left poles at suitable spot (well, not quite, on return had to search a bit ) and in the blink of an eye on top. Refueled a bit, caught breath, already on way to Palec. Got up there quick too, since so close. Weather held, even sun hinted above cloud blanket . Hinted! Nice trip Also answer to most asked question here: no winter gear needed no snow P.S. on summit book cover says sign for own safety and complete data. Little brains no girl signed complete data, no address, no phone no., let alone birth year

Today on Zelenjak, walked to hut on Zelenica, first warning from piste groomers that avalanche above, higher from hut onwards it was crusty snow for us, already at dwarf pines where view to Zelenjak, Palec and Vrtača opens, windpacked snow, on Zelenjak icy in places, new snow can be traversed without issues with proper winter gear. On return surprised by snow shower.

"...get warning that avalanche above..." Really don't know what you wanted to say with that...

I too don't know what he wanted to tell us, he probably warned us of the danger lurking there in the forest.

You caught me on 3 pics, I was on Palec first, we met, if I recall, at the rock on top of the gully from Austria. Yesterday real rush 100+ above Zelenica.

Tx, skalaš70. I try to make an interesting and useful report, which to me is important so others after the report get info on conditions and path description, not that 'guy' boasts where he was ... @pikica: we wanted to go to Stol and back too, but I was a bit tired because the day before I was on Grintovec, so we rather went down for beer and tea D

The descent they used from Vrtača - that's probably the variant over Mala glava?

@sla: don't know what that first peak on Vrtača is called viewed from Zelenica, not marked on map, but found a useful pic and marked approx descent route for you ...

This weekend at Zelenica, we did a winter tour for less experienced members of our mountain guides' station. On Saturday to centralka, on Sunday to Suho ruševje, Palec and Zelenjak. Weather on Saturday a bit cloudy, on Sunday wonderful, perfect winter idyll, sun but lots of snow. Conditions good, to Zelenjak a bit windblown, to Palec ok, no problems. Lots of visitors, hut full of Croats, climbing on all sides, on Sunday full of ski tourers. In short, a nice weekend and solid conditions for gaining experience, I think conditions on Begunjščica and Vrtača maybe until end of March, something removes snow incredibly fast. Some pics follow as always... wink

One question: is it possible from Zelenica through Suho ruševje on foot (no skis or crampons) - does it sink in the scree? Path probably visible due to many visitors.
