Spodnja Kokra - Bašeljski vrh

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice motorway, take the Kranj-east exit and continue following the road towards Jezersko. Just a few kilometres after the Preddvor turn-off, on the right side of the road we will spot a transformer and a parking lot next to it, where we park. There are also signposts for the Čemšenik hut here.

Route description:
From the parking lot, first carefully cross the road, then head onto the footpath towards the Čemšenik hut. The wide path barely ascends to the Polajnar farmstead, where we step onto the road and follow it to the right.
The road steeply ascends right after the house, but a bit higher it loses its asphalt surface. Further on, the road levels out and turns slightly to the left, where it gets very close to the Čemšeniški stream. A little further, we cross the mentioned stream and immediately after it reach a marked junction, where we continue on the left road towards the Čemšenik hut. The road then starts to ascend more steeply again and after less than 30 minutes of further walking brings us to the Čemšenik hut.
From the Čemšenik hut, we continue towards Javorov vrh (signposted Javorjev vrh) on a path that enters the forest after just a few metres. The initially moderately steep path soon brings us to a torrent gully, along which it ascends for a while. Higher up, the path turns right and ascends even more steeply. We follow this relatively steep path, which runs through dense forest the whole time, all the way to the junction at the saddle between Potoška gora on the left and Javorov vrh on the right.
We continue right (left to Potoška gora and Sveti Jakob) on a moderately steep path that after a short ascent brings us to the south-western ridge of Javorov vrh, from which we get some views towards Cjanovci. The path goes just a little further back into the dense forest, where we reach the next well-marked junction.
Here we continue left towards Srednji vrh, Kališče and Storžič (straight to Javorov vrh 15 minutes) on a path that after a few more steps brings us to a pleasant spring. This is followed by a half-hour traverse of the slopes below Javorov vrh, which ends at the saddle between the mentioned peak and Cjanovca.
At the saddle, the path from Javorov vrh joins us, but we continue left towards Hudičev boršt (straight to Cjanovca and Srednji vrh). The path further traverses the slopes to the west, then brings us out of the forest onto the scenic southern slopes of Cjanovca. This is followed by a traverse of occasionally steeper grassy slopes, which end at the edge of the Hudičev boršt forest. From here, the path ascends a bit more and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to the Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu shelter.
From the shelter, we continue on the path to the west, where we soon reach the spring in Hudičev boršt, and immediately after it a marked junction, where we go straight (left downhill Mačenska pot to Mače). This is followed by a short traverse of a grassy slope, then the path enters the forest and brings us to a junction, where the path to Dolga njiva, Cjanovci, Srednji vrh and Mali Grintovec branches right, and we continue straight. The path further traverses the slopes to the left for a short time, then after crossing a gully brings us to a junction, where we continue right towards Kališče (the lower path leads to Mače).
The path continues to traverse the slopes to the left. During the traverse, we will reach a small scree slope, from which we get the first view towards the valley. This is followed by a short traverse and the path brings us into the Suha valley, where an unmarked path from Mače joins from the left.
We continue towards Kališče and continue the ascent on a gradually steeper path. The path ascends through dense forest for a while longer, then brings us to the foot of rocky cliffs and just a little higher to the ridge, where a small hut is visible just a few metres off the path. Here the path turns right and steeply ascends over a short rocky step. The path levels out here and just a few metres further joins the usual path to Kališče.
We continue towards Kališče and ascend on a moderately steep path, by which in 5 minutes of further walking we reach the Planinski dom na Kališču.
Behind the Dom na Kališču, we notice a mountaineering direction sign with numerous continuation options. We continue on the gentle and scenic ridge path towards Storžič, Bašeljski vrh..., which continues northwards. After a few minutes of easy walking with beautiful views reaching to the Julian Alps, we reach a junction, where we continue right (straight to Storžič) towards Bašeljski vrh. The path ascends more steeply through a belt of dwarf pines and with beautiful views of the neighbouring Mali Grintovec brings us to the dwarf pine-covered ridge of Bašeljski vrh, where in the next few minutes we reach the next well-marked junction. At the junction, the path to Mali Grintovec and Srednji vrh branches right, we continue straight and with a view of Storžič continue the ascent. The path, which runs along and on the dwarf pine-covered ridge, just below the summit is joined by the path from Jekarica and Bašeljski preval. Here we continue right and along a somewhat narrower ridge in one minute of further walking reach Bašeljski vrh, from which we get a beautiful view of the mountains above Jezersko, with the view extending to Košuta, Obir and the Labotniške Alpe in Austria.
