Koča na Loki pod Raduho

Description of hut:
In the heart of Planina Loka, nestled in a peaceful valley beneath the 1925-meter-high Lanež and the 1844-meter-high Jelovec, the popular Koča na Loki pod Raduho awaits visitors at an altitude of 1534 meters. This mountain hut is excellently managed by the Mountaineering Club Luče. While the view toward Rogatec and Lepenatka offers wonderful panoramas, the horizon on the remaining sides is guarded by the mighty slopes of Raduha. The main operating season runs from the beginning of June until the end of September, with the doors also open on weekends and holidays in May and October.
The interior offers a true alpine atmosphere with two dining rooms heated by a traditional farmhouse stove and seating up to 100 guests. The caretakers are renowned for their excellent home cooking, with unforgettable blueberry štruklji as the highlight, complemented by hearty stews and game goulash with buckwheat žganci. For multi-day visits, 85 beds are available across six rooms and dormitory accommodations, along with refreshing washrooms with hot water.
A special charm is added by the picturesque wooden Chapel of the Holy Cross, built just a short distance above the hut. This fairy-tale sanctuary, consecrated in autumn 1991, was designed by architect Jože Kregar and occasionally hosts mountain masses during summer.
The mountain pasture is an excellent starting point for further hikes. A well-trodden path past the chapel leads to the summit of Velika Raduha in an hour and a half. Just half an hour’s walk away on the neighboring pasture Arto lies Snežna jama, the highest tourist cave in the country, offering a unique view of an underground ice kingdom.
