Description of mountain:
Sasso Vernale is a highly panoramic pyramid south of Marmolada. Access to the summit ascent, which is demanding due to an unmarked but traceable former military path over steep, sandy rocks amid remnants of warfare between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy, is relatively easy via marked trails, mostly over scree.
Accessible from Passo San Pellegrino, from Alba di Canazei, and from Rifugio Failer above Malga Ciapèla.
A serious tour for experienced mountaineers accustomed to crumbly Dolomite terrain, with a steady step who do not underestimate a relatively easy hike with some exposed sections.
