The saddle is located 7 km southwest from the center of Grünau im Almtal and 9 km east-southeast from the center of Traunkirchen. The nearest mountain hut is Gasselhütte, located 4km west-northwest. A little further is bivouac Almtal Naturwildpark. Southwest of the saddle is the valley Rettenbachtal.
