Totes Kreuz is 1243 meter high peak and is part of the Upper Austrian Prealps. The peak is located 5 km south-southwest from the center of Grünau im Almtal and 9 km south-southwest from the center of Mühldorf. The nearest mountain hut is Sepp Huber Hütte, located 5km east. Closer is bivouac Almtal Naturwildpark, which is located 3km to the east-southeast. Southwest of the summit is the valley Rettenbachtal.
