Steinberg is 1457 meter high peakon which a cross stands in the Upper Austrian Prealps. The peak is located 9 km south-southwest from the center of Grünau im Almtal and 9 km east-southeast from the center of Ebensee. The nearest mountain hut is Gasselhütte, located 6km northwest. A bit closer is bivouac Almtal Naturwildpark, which is located 5km to the east-northeast. The peak is located northeast of the valley Rettenbachtal.
