Gatternock is 2888 meter high peak and is part of the Rieserferner Group. The peak is located 3 km north-northeast of peak Großer Rauchkofel. The nearest mountain hut is Kasseler Hütte, located 4km east-northeast. Bacheralm is a bit further away. 3 km south-southwest from the summit there is glacier Althauskees - Vedretta di Casavecchia, 3 km east-southeast from the summit there is also glacier Westlicher Rieserferner - Vedretta di Ries occidentale.
