The trail is well followable even at this time of year when higher up it's covered with snow, orientation by the hats, plenty of them. Long and very varied trail with beautiful views. Nice tour for maintaining hiking fitness.

Start from Logar Valley, snow starts at Okrešelj, higher up about 10 cm new snow, winter gear recommended. Fog lasted all the way to Savinja Saddle, after that fairytale.

Koldo! You asked about gear... Of course winter gear, crampons, ice axe and helmet are mandatory. Helmet because you climb directly under the wall to Kokrško sedlo and every now and then a pebble falls. The path from Kamniška Bistrica is slippery, snow cover to Kokrško sedlo is negligible, the path is slippery. From the hut onwards snowdrifts are deep to the balls, but can be bypassed on rocks/rocks. Otherwise snow 5-10 cm, but windblown to the ground in places. Today sunny, very cold and windy. Start 6.30, return 13.30. You can drive to the start like the lady from the neighboring country did today, but she messed up the road badly... 150 m before the start there's lots of space for cars to which you can get without problem. I remembered that in this thread a while ago they talked about tours.. I also suggest the route that my cousin and I hiked this year..
--start at upper Belopeško lake and continue via Via della Vita to Vevnica and past Bivak Tarvisio continue on path to Mangart and then descent to hut below Mangart and sleep
--in the morning from hut via Kovo saddle to Jalovec and descend to shelter under Špičkom and sleep
--third day from shelter to Vršič (due to rain unfortunately didn't climb Mojstrovke) and sleep at Poštarski dom
--early morning to Prisojnik via Kopiščarjeva and continue over Zadnje okno to Razor and descend to Pogačnikov dom at Kriški podi where we overnighted
--last day from Kriški podi also to Stenar and then via Sovatna to Vrata

So far one of the most beautiful and interesting tours I've done with huge beautiful views and encounters with fearless chamois, whistling marmots, beautiful rarely touched corners with divinely scented blooming flowers..

barbarela, for a multi-day tour in the Julijci you can choose this route that my father and I hiked, and he's about the same age as you two...
--we went to sleep at the Italian Zachi hut above the Belopeški lakes and the next morning climbed via Via della Vita to Vevnica, Strug and Dve Ponci, then overnight again at the same hut.
--second day from the hut to Mangart via the Italian via ferrata and then overnight at Mangart hut.
--third day from Mangart hut via Kotovo saddle to Jalovec and down the other side to sleep at the shelter under Špička.
--fourth day from the shelter to Bavški Grintavec, descended to Soča village where transport was waiting...
