17.10.2020 start of the tour from C station (mandatory 4x4 vehicle). Put on skis at 1750 m altitude, less than 10' walk to there. At Prestreljenik saddle about half a meter of snow. Skiing down to the lowest chairlift no problem, then too many rocks, to the car less than 15' slow walk.

Snow in the lower part was ok, hard icy snow, on the ledges under the chimney it sank to the waist, soft snow. We'll try again when conditions on northern slopes improve.

16/2/2020 Goal was winter ascent of Kopiščarjeva through Prisojnik Window. Halfway, precisely at the traverse left just below the known chimney, unstable windblown snow stopped us and we quickly turned back.
For info: right at the start of the route the fixed protections stick out of the snow, after a few meters they disappear under snow and we see them again in the chimney where snow hardly accumulated.
In winter among those walls of Prisojnik it's really unique!

I know that in Trenta and Log nothing has been done. This applies as of today 11/01/2020.

It is true that the Slovenian name is Notch of the last Spranja; Gino Buscaini in the extensive ALPI GIULIE (CAI-TCI 1974) cites the toponym Mojzes Notch as by F. Bäder in 1861, since the rock mass at the notch greatly resembles Michelangelo's artwork. Usually you confirm the Slovenian term Koštrun Spires.

Start from Saisera late afternoon. Night in Mazzeni bivouac in upper Spranja. (door found open and interior untidy).

Second day start early morning to Nabojs saddle, before Studence glacier right into rocks. Crossed wide ledge (belay on two bolts). Followed grooves a few meters right (old peg below). Through natural window belayed with 30-meter rope due to fresh rockfall and very crumbly ground. To summit on ledges.

To valley: ferrata to Mojzes notch, ascent to Cime Castrein, descent to notch of front Spranja (lavinal dell'orso), descent along notch towards Mazzeni bivouac and then to Saisera.

Monday 7.1.2019, Sedlo Hude Police from Zajzera via Huda Palica gully, the longest in the Julian Alps.
Snow starts already at Planina Zajzeri. The path climbing to Bivacco Mazzeni is now covered with ice falls, so need to be careful. Snow is wind-packed in some parts, sinks to knees. Footprints visible in snow, so I assume someone was here a day or two ago. In the gully not enough snow to cover the first rocky step, footprints stop here and turn back to valley. From here no more problems, gully steeply ascends between wild north walls to Sedlo Hude Police. Last few meters where slope steepens conditions very bad, ice axe doesn't hold in wind snow. I skipped this part due to high slip risk. Best time for this tour is April or May, when snow is fully settled and gully completely filled.

Very nice pictures! At what altitude does snow approximately start? Is 'Forca del Pallone' (Ita name for the saddle between 'Cima Verde' and 'Cima Terra Rossa') sufficiently snowy? Tomorrow I plan a walk to the saddle. Thanks

ON THE OLD ABANDONED MILITARY PATH

Sunday 1.7.2018 at 17:00 I park the car in Ovčja vas and start walking on the gravel road towards the end of Zajzera valley. At Rifugio Montasio I cross the asphalt and turn right up the gravel road that takes me behind the barracks to the torrent. On the other side is the old Aqueduct, here starts the old military path that some have already written about in this forum. The path is abandoned, no one uses it anymore. With the help of Italian Tabacco map, altimeter and some logic the little path is quickly found and no crawling in gullies needed, scree not a problem. The path first takes me to some stone pillar, didn't understand if monument or old border stone. Higher I reach ruins of barracks and shelters dug into rock. At every step I see war remains, still full Italian cartridges, bomb fragments, wires and such. In company of chamois I reach the ridge where the path is now very visible, below me on left is that big gully but no need to descend into it, along the upper part the path at same height brings me a bit above Bivacco Gemona.
Overnight in bivouac, second day along marked path to summit and then northern path over Planina Ravna back to car in Ovčja vas.
