Hello!
I'm quite experienced as a summer mountain visitor, but I want winter ascents too. I have crampons and an ice axe, I did a three-day course on safe movement in mountains in winter, now I don't know how to proceed. So I'm asking for all suggestions where to go in the mountains in winter (beginner tours) and also if I could join someone on an easier tour. Maybe a colleague will join too, who also has no winter experience (but has gear). Since we're from Carinthia, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps would be the most suitable for the start. Thanks in advance and best regards!

Yesterday we successfully completed the tour to Montasio, up through the couloir and back through the ladder. There were 9 of us and we could hardly have chosen a better day. The conditions were really excellent, pleasantly warm and no more snow. The path through the couloir is really quite dangerous, rocks fly practically all the time. Mostly triggered by ibex, sometimes also by hikers. There was quite a crowd on Pipan's ladder, but none of us had problems on it. Problem arises only if three Italians come towards you somewhere in the middle, who think they are alone in the world and don't pay attention to others. But luckily the meeting somehow succeeded. After the end of the tour, I would recommend swimming in Lake Predil, as it really feels good nasmeh

Okay thanks. We'll try and decide on the go. Regards

So, winter equipment will probably not be needed?

Hello!
Maybe someone knows if any snow has fallen on the path to Montaž (Findenegg couloir and Pipan's ladder) these days that could last until Sunday? Thanks for the answers!

Over the weekend successful hike with hiking group Štajga to Kanjavec and Veliko špičje.

1st day: start early morning at three from Mislinja to catch the first bus at 5.30 from Senožeta to Planina Blato. When we arrive at the parking lot we find out that the first bus goes only at 6.30, at least an hour late for hikers. No choice, of course we wait, pay the parking fee (it's also twice as expensive as the info on the internet). The bus was already full at six, we wait till 6.30 and go, some had to stand on the bus. A bit after seven in the morning we finally start hiking towards Planina pri Jezeru and from there to Za Kopico to Hribarice. From Hribarice to Kanjavec and then back by another path to Prehodavci, where we had reserved accommodation. Dinner, socializing, cards and singing and then well-deserved rest in the bivouac, where you can sleep excellently. We were quite a colorful company of Carinthians, Prekmurans and also Croats. Last song, Good night Irena and then sleep.

2nd day: wake up at half six and departure at six in two groups, smaller group directly to Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih, larger one to Veliko špičje. Very nice ridge path, once again confirmed the rule that the true summit is the very last one. After 2.30 hours we arrive at a very panoramic summit, from where you can see almost all Julijci. Descent to Dolina sedmerih jezer was a bit unpleasant, but we survived anyway. Refreshment at Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih and then over Štapce to Planina pri Jezeru and on to Planina Blato for the bus. Half an hour before bus departure there were already 35 of us there, when we set off some latecomers came, so we headed down completely full, at least 15 people had to stand. After the two-day tour there was refreshment in Bohinjsko jezero and drive towards Koroška.

Is there still any snow on the ridge and Slovenian route? Is winter gear needed?

Yesterday, 15.7.2019 I did my third stage of Slovenian Mountain Trail. Uncle Franc joined me on the way. We started at Križan below Uršlja gora at 5am when it was just dawning. At the beginning an hour walk on gravel road to Andrejev dom on Slemen. We expected it closed, and it was. But we didn't expect no SPP stamp available. I checked the whole hut area, no stamp anywhere. For me no problem to get it, from Koroška I can drive easily, but for someone from farther places big minus.
Continued to Dom na Smrekovcu, arrived after a bit over 2 hours on very nice path. Time for first sandwich and beer, hut nicely arranged, hostess very friendly. After break short ascent to Smrekovec ridge and on under Krnes to interesting peak Komen. Path to there very nice and passed quickly. To Koča na Travniku path dragged a bit, met first hiker/mushroom picker there. Stamp and pad in front of hut, open only weekends. After small refreshment headed to Koča na Loki. On varied path over planina Vodole no issues, arrived at Loki shortly after 13.00. Time for lunch (very good ričet) and refresh (beer nasmeh). Again very friendly hostess.
After break headed towards Raduha. Sign at hut says 1h30 to summit, but 100m higher says 1h50. Maybe another path or marker error. Needs fixing anyway. To summit in moderate pace and light rain took 1h30. Met two families and about 200 sheep on the way. Summit decent view for cloudy day and stamp in bad condition. Then to Durci, headed north to Grohot. Right below Durci path needs renewal, but at scree becomes normal and so to Koča v Grohotu. There note on door "Coming right away", but at 17.00 couldn't wait not knowing when. Wanted only to stamp, no stamp anywhere again, same as morning at Slemen.
Only descent to Rogovilc in Savinja valley left, didn't know it's so "destructive". At start slight descent, mostly crossing slopes under Raduha walls. After about hour very steep descent starts, doesn't let up to valley. And steeper, especially past Tolstovršnik farm. Path well marked but poorly trodden, as (assume) mostly used by SPP walkers. Arrived valley shortly after 19.00, transport home waiting. Of course stopped for earned beer at Gostilna pod Iglo, legs really suffered on last descent, then picked up car at Križan and home.
It was a very nice and strenuous tour behind us and hats off to anyone who reads all I wrote.

Thanks everyone for the answers. This week due to the temperatures it will probably melt a lot, so we'll try over the weekend via the climbing route. Then I'll report on the conditions. Best regards

Hello!
Does anyone know by chance what the conditions are on the path from Grohata via the secured path to the top? Is winter gear still needed? Best regards

Hello!
Let me share my opinion and also one question. Eight years ago (I was 15) I first summited Jalovec, up over Kotovo sedlo, we descended towards Špička. The ascent remained in my memory as quite hard, mainly because of crumbly rock, on descent no problems, what stuck most in memory is precisely this ridge, which is really quite narrow, but no major problems. So boldly and with a certain measure of respect. And since eight years have passed since my last ascent of Jalovec, I also plan this summer to conquer the king of Slovenian mountains. I'm most drawn over Jalovški ozebnik, but I don't know if the path is even open (I've got very different information). And if it's open, with which other Slovenian path in Slovenia could it be compared? Thanks in advance for answers and best regards! nasmeh
