Yesterday we headed to the hut in a completely idyllic winter landscape. As soon as we got out of the car, it was freezing cold, foggy, windy, not inviting at all..... But as soon as we started along the military mule track, path 146, the weather conditions improved significantly. We left the low fogs, the sun gained strength and warmed us more and more, and the snowy landscape sparkled. There was about 20 to 30 cm of snow, occasionally more and it sank under us. It was trodden to the junction for Creta di Collina, but even after that we had no major problems. A nice rocky passage is there, after which you descend slightly and then continue the path to the forest road, which leads you to the hut. At the hut there were some visitors who came from the opposite side too. Here we stayed for a while and looked at all the peaks that clearly appeared on the horizon. Visibility was great yesterday. We returned first along the forest road, then turned left onto the trail, which brought us to the pass in twenty minutes. Here we also climbed to the abandoned barracks and looked at the old Roman inscriptions on the rock from the third century. At the car we found ourselves again in fog and cold, so we quickly packed up and drove home.

After a long time we headed back to the rocks and climbed this beautiful route, 250 meters long, located near Bivouac Gorizia. The route is not very equipped, but there are considerable natural belay options. We descended by rappelling, as the anchors for double rope are equipped. While we were climbing, a group of Triestines was climbing on the opposite side along the north ridge. Unfortunately, one of them had an accident and due to a ten-meter fall a helicopter arrived and took them to the valley.

Borut Kumar wrote the following in his article about Sabotin: "The least known (or almost unknown), most interesting and hardest to access geological feature is located under the NE wall of Sabotin, where you can admire a rock shelter about half a kilometer long, carved out by the Soča tens of millions of years ago. Under the wall itself there are more rock shelters of various sizes and lengths, but they are even harder to access and less attractive." Well, of course this was written as a challenge, which I accepted and today I went to Brda successfully, as I found the rock shelters and the only spring on Sabotin. But I have to thank the hunter who gave me some more precise information than Borut. With the first ones I wandered around the hunting lodge, through the forest, found a thousand other things, but not the rock shelters. I was almost desperate and heading back to the car when I spotted a hunter on a moped who restored my hope and pointed out the right path. I'm satisfied with my persistence. The rock shelters are wonderful; if you like rock, they are worth seeing.

We deliberately saved the best for next time!!!! We'll or I'll return and do the trail in the opposite direction. Thanks anyway for the info, Igor.

We too yesterday in fog walked the same path as LEGENDA. Visibility was good despite low clouds. At the bivouac it even cleared up, on return it was almost completely clear. I'd add only that we didn't go down to Škrbina Sprednje Špranje, but took the unmarked military mule track directly to Rifugio Cregnadul and saved a full hour of walking. On the way back we could also feast on delicious raspberries. I was on this path for the first time and must say it exceptionally captivated and thrilled me. Truly beautiful!!!

The forecasts were completely wrong, we expected rain but there was none. So we quickly decided for an afternoon trip to the Golaks. Via shortcut we walked to the closed Iztok hut and further towards Golaks. Temperature was ideal, not too hot nor too cold, landscape especially in the upper part interesting and diverse, views extensive and clear.........we met some people but can count them on fingers. At the top a friendly mountaineer wrote on a stone HUT, signpost for those coming from Vojsko who don't know the path to Iztok hut. Probably he also newly arranged and marked the gentle path. Great job! On the way back it was lightly raining....so it was really pleasant.

Today we woke up very early, so at five we were already heading towards today's goal, which was Mount Amariana in the Carnic Alps. In Carnia we left the highway, drove to the village of Amaro and parked. First we walked a bit on asphalt, then turned left and climbed up the lush overgrown path 414 to the Cristo di Forca pass at 1058 m. Most people drive here by car, as there is also an arranged parking lot where quite a few cars were parked today. Here the path continues through the forest and meadows full of various flowers. Paradise for botanists! After an hour of walking the path opens up, we climb grassy slopes to the rocks, where there is also a short easy climbing path that leads us to the top, where there is a statue of Mary with a bell. Today there were quite a few people at the top, both Slovenian and Italian speaking. It's a very scenic mountain!!!!! You have to climb it very early, because otherwise it's too hot. If you start from the village of Amaro, the path is quite long and you do about 1500 meters of elevation gain. In the lower part it's good to spray yourself with tick repellent!!! Worth a visit!

Today I popped up for conditioning training. I did a loop, up the steep one, down the gentle one. It was really nice and clean, but just below the ridge it was blowing certainly 100 per hour. It took your breath away! On the way back I met a chamois, but unfortunately it didn't want to be photographed.

Sabotin is in bloom. There are 608 different species of flowers on it and in this period it is a real botanical garden. Sabotin doesn't have many ticks, Sveta gora has many more.

At the top I recently met people who came via the northern path.......so I consider it open.

From the very nicely arranged, clean, and renovated village of Kamnje, I set off today along the path of scythes and rakes to Kucelj. The path is quite long and very solitary, but beautiful and well marked. At the top of Kuclja I sat a bit and rested, then headed towards Mali Gori or Čavn. The path has completely changed its look after this winter, trails are unrecognizable, lots of broken and fallen trees, foresters really have a lot of work. The newly marked path to Mali Gori (new signpost 100 meters higher than the old path) is really poorly visible and when I found no more traces of the trail, I went down one gully. From Mali Gori to the starting point everything is nicely marked and passable again.

Today we finally went a bit out on the snow. The road to the Pelizzo hut is officially closed, but since it is bare almost to the top, many drive on and park higher. We did the same, so we were immediately on skis. On the path we met quite a few people. There is plenty of snow, so it went smoothly to the top. There is of course little skiing, but that still quite good quality. Nature, Krn on the opposite side, view from the top, chapel........lots of beauty and good air.

In Gorizia it was raining in the morning, but we trusted the meteorologists who forecasted sun in the Alps at the Tarvisio end and so it was. This time we drove on the Slovenian side through Bovec, because the Italian motorway is getting more expensive, as you have to pay more than 20 euros for both directions (10.4 + 10.4 eur.), if you drive from Gorizia to Trbiž. The Slovenian route is even more scenic in this period, but in some sections more dangerous because of crazy drivers who press the gas too much. In the mountains it was a real autumn fairy tale, as seen from the pictures. We went to the top of the Stone Hunter, descended towards Zajzera first on an easier ferrata, then on a forest path, but only to the junction, where we took the path towards Višarje. Again a bit up, then a bit flat, a bit down, then again up the road and finally we reached the top of Višarje. The church was still open at four in the afternoon and also two refreshment places, so we quenched our thirst with hot teas, chatted with the friendly caretaker and returned to the valley and then home. Beautiful, beautiful day!
