Hi! I'm wondering how I can access topics on the forum if I can't even see them due to extremely annoying ads? It looks like this:

Even while writing this message, I see this:

Thanks for the reply and sorry for possible typos, as I can't see half of the message. wink

Not quite current conditions, but if anyone's interested, say, how yellow the larches are already. nasmeh
Last weekend we went with friends to Planina Viševnik, overnighted, and the next day via Planina Ovčarija up to Mala Tičarica. We returned by the same path. As said, larches on Sunday were mostly still green, a bit yellow here and there, real golden orange nowhere yet. Weather was fantastic, morning mists in the valley (to about 1500m), higher up sun and a few clouds spicing the blue sky.
In the morning it seemed we heard a bear; two hillwalkers we met on Tičarica said they saw fresh bear tracks and droppings that morning on the path from Black Lake.

I also observed this yesterday above Prisojnik. The phenomenon is called iridescence or iridization, it occurs when the cloud is thin and made of droplets of the same size, which then shine in colors due to diffraction. More about it here: http://www.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/irid1.htm, the page describes many other phenomena too.

When I was writing the reply to Pikec, Alpin's pics weren't uploaded yet. These are wonderful too, fog and blue sky above, snow-covered trees - a real fairy tale! There will still be plenty of opportunities for flying, right?

Pikec, great atmosphere you had! And super pics. Now you've really encouraged me to go back to Kamnik Peak soon. Haven't been this year. velik nasmeh

Volk, for that money the Tamron 18-200 is excellent - currently available here for just over 200 euros. It's light, has a great range, but I sometimes miss stabilization, especially at 200 mm. I'm thinking about buying the Tamron 18-270, not so much for the extra millimeters but for the stabilization. Anyway, 18 mm is too narrow angle, especially for mountains, so I always carry a wide-angle too.

Medo, this lens as the only one for hills I certainly wouldn't recommend. big grin 28 mm is way too narrow on most modern DSLRs (with crop factor 1.5 or 1.6), where due to smaller sensor 28 becomes 38 mm.

Pikec, you won't miss with either one or the other. winking

Haha, yes, Peter, I know, noticed right away when I posted the pic. Don't know what slip-up that was. Chamois, of course. velik nasmeh

Pikec, I have Sigma 10-20 mm, Tamron 18-200 mm and Peleng fisheye 8 mm. Especially without the wide-angle - Sigma - I can't imagine photographing mountains and I use that one the most. Tamron nicely covers from relatively wide angle to tele range, if I want to photograph some peak in the distance or chamois, fisheye is a cool toy, as it offers 180 degrees field of view. velik nasmeh

In my profile you'll find link to my gallery, where I have quite a few trips posted, browse especially year 2009.

I'd warn that with DSLR and lenses photographing it's not only additional weight, which isn't negligible, but also that you need gear at hand. I have it in bag in front of me, so everything within reach. Can't imagine having lenses in backpack and having to take it off every time to change lens - although some do that. Like all other things everyone has to figure out what suits best and what's most practical for them.

Most carry small compacts to mountains cuz they're not that masochistic to carry extra couple kilos. mežikanje
I'm on Canon.
angie5. 01. 2010 20:51:12
It's true the quality of superzooms is worse than lenses with smaller focal range, but superzooms are more practical for mountains. In the middle of a wall it's hard to change lens. velik nasmeh
I'd consider Tamron 18-270 which has stabilization too. Sigmas are ok but quality control is worse, meaning more likely to hit a bad copy, at least that's my experience and my photo friends'.
Lastly I'll say that I carry three lenses to mountains and often curse when changing them - due to dangerous position, cold or missed moment. Chamois sometimes won't wait till you change lens. velik nasmeh

Thanks, alpin! Yes, regarding wide angle, some pics taken with Sigma 10-20 mm, some with fisheye Peleng 8 mm.

On Sunday no issues with logs, probably don't work on weekends? nasmeh But I agree that some warning signs wouldn't be hard to put up if parked cars right at the cable car really obstruct foresters' work. Hikers can do a couple hundred meters more, right? velik nasmeh

I was also on Grintovec on Sunday, weather was fantastic except the wind that was blowing hard on top, views beautiful. Sun up there, mix of smog and fog in the valley. In the morning some footsteps were a bit icy, but crampons were unnecessary, gaiters too.

No secret at all. Canon 350D, couple of lenses and polarizer. Why do you ask?
angie6. 09. 2009 20:41:26
Yes, we really did! If I'd known then, I'd have gladly said something more. nasmeh

Pictures apparently attached to my previous post - see above. nasmeh

Tuesday and Wednesday were great for the mountains! Plans were somewhat crossed by my companion's inflamed knee ligament, so we scratched ascent to Razor and Prisojnik, but lower path was wonderful too. And on the whole path Krnica-Križ-Pogačnikov dom-Planja saddle-Mlinarica-Vršič we saw only a handful of people (except in the hut where 30-40 slept).
Really nice tour!
