I randomly went to read this topic and it actually gives me the creeps. Fireworks already bother me in the valley, let alone if they popped in nature, in the mountains, where I usually expect peace and sounds of nature. Popping because our ancestors shot there won't revive anything, especially not memories. Firecrackers are something completely different from a real war. And I really understand some Bosnians who can't hear bangs anymore, already because of fear itself, without reliving fear and horror on every anniversary.
Anyway, I doubt pyrotechnic devices, whatever form, are from completely natural materials. At least not 100%. If natural, I still don't throw it everywhere, not at home, least of all in nature. Because then it would be an even bigger landfill than it is, though natural material decomposes, but it takes time. It would look great if all mountaineers left paper bags with sandwiches or tissues on the mountains, maybe paper too, since all natural. Wonderful!

I've now got myself some poles, actually I got them for these holidays now and gaiters for snow. Gaiters have nothing to do with safety, just protection from wet pants and consequently legs. Otherwise I have good hiking boots.
I don't have crampons, nor ice axe or similar stuff, that's why I don't go to higher peaks, but stick to lower, more visited ones. For example this weekend I went to Krim. For my preparation and fitness it was more than enough.
Anyway geolog79, ice axe is good also if you slip, so you can catch yourself on it, not just for climbing. It's true all this gear costs. So you don't tempt fate and go, like me for example, to less dangerous and steep areas.

Soon I'll be 25... to the mountains regularly only for a good year... before there was no real inspiration...

I read your opinions on hiking poles. For now I still walk around without them, but slowly deciding to buy. With boyfriend we somehow concluded it's better to buy non-folding and as light as possible. On advice of some people who use them. Prices of those are of course higher. Some lower price range poles are folding and even quite heavier than others. What would you advise me? Per year we do about 10-15 hikes, haven't gone above 2000m yet.
And what handles are better? Plastic probably least right?

Bohor is also nice at this time, yesterday I visited it again after a week. The path is damp, so quite slippery on leaves and stones, but if the footwear is right there is no problem. In the sun, the sunlit Krško polje is nicely visible and far around and the autumn colouring of nearby and slightly more distant hills. But today too much wind.

Since I'm also more of a newbie, I've been hiking in mountains for just over a year, in winter I choose easier and less dangerous trails. So last year for example I visited Kopitnik and Mrzlica in snow. Maybe this year some longer tour, but all within normal limits. For safety I prefer areas that are not dangerous (avalanches, slips etc.), if I get more actively into hiking I'll surely buy all winter gear and educate myself about it first. But I don't support heroism in mountains in any conditions.

I'm Amadea and I come from near Krško. Exactly under Bohor. Only last year my boyfriend and I started going to the hills more frequently. The best about reaching a summit is mainly the view and the feeling that I've achieved something, which I couldn't even imagine a year ago. And also that I do something for myself and my body.
Otherwise we started with smaller ascents, several times to Bohor, Boč, Veliko Kozje in Posavje, then Lisca, Trdinov vrh, in between and now also some higher peaks like Golica, Krvavec. We've walked a lot also in Tolmin and Kobarid area this summer, where we stayed a whole week. Otherwise I record and describe my hikes and trips (access, path) and add photos in my blog http://amadeaz.blogspot.com/ under the group trips and views, where besides hills there are also some other excursions mostly in Slovenia. What can I say, I enjoy discovering new beauties of Slovenia. Next year I hope we go camping to Bohinj.

Yeah that's true too. Already from the hut onwards there's a sign prohibiting motor vehicles and cyclists. They say. But they drive anyway.

I have to say I was very disappointed with the offer on Krvavec for hikers and cyclists. While in winter Krvavec is full on, in other months no interest for others who like to walk. Hut on Krvavec closed, supposedly open only weekends. Although number of visitors quite large even weekdays. At top of Krvavec destroyed logbook and stamp, so didn't get the stamp at all. Probably available in hut if open. On way back stopped at Plaža and just caught the vendor selling drinks as we ran out. Then he closed that too.
Otherwise the trip was really nice. Recommend especially nice sunny weather, view can be divine. Start at Ambrož pod Krvavcem then path through Jezerce to hut on Krvavec, from there to top Krvavec and to Veliki Zvoh. There at least they have stamp.

Lisca is now much fuller and merrier. I was there in September and they slightly renovated Tončkov dom, added some catering offer and the visit is good. You also have all kinds of stamps available. For the slightly more active I recommend also Sv. Lovrenc and Veliko Kozje.

We two wanted to do this trip on 31.10., we drove up and it was all in fog. It was blowing so strongly that it wasn't suitable anywhere. Then we rather decided for Boč. But I hope that we will soon sail back to those areas.
