I just thoroughly tested Wave Ascend 7. Mostly I ran on exactly that terrain you mention (asphalt-gravel-forest-asphalt). Grip is top in dry, on grass even in wet. Not for heavy mud of course, but they seemed quite solid on asphalt to me. I'd add that foot grip was top already on the first kilometer without blisters, which I'm not used to with "trail" shoes.
But let me warn about a fairly big drawback. Maybe it's coincidence, but during another run I slightly "caught" thorns. After that the side logo started tearing off + the mesh fraying, from which I conclude they don't hold up long on completely unkempt terrain.
