We members of PD Nova Gorica did a touring ski weekend in Krn Mountains on Saturday 2.4. and Sunday 3.4. We accommodated ourselves in Dom pri Krnskih jezerih, which opened doors in winter season for the second year already. On Saturday ten participants went to Batognica and Peske. Skiing down from Peske was excellent, although snow softened a bit. On Sunday four more joined us and in beautiful morning went towards Baba. Snow was frozen and hard in the morning, promising excellent skiing. We skied from Baba; some chose lower target and skied from Lanževec. Skiing was excellent.

In Krn Mountains there is still around two meters of snow, so I warmly recommend all touring skiers to visit Krn Mountains and Dom pri Krnskih jezerih.

On the last day of January after heavy snowfall we decided to go to Lokve and further to Mala Lazna. From the parking lot at Mala Lazna we set off skinning on skis towards Iztok Hut below Golaki. The snow is dry and powdery. Skis sink in quite a bit as we are first on the trail today. Two more set off behind us who arrived after us. It snows occasionally. We take turns as the snow sinks deeply and causes some trouble.http://www.hribi.net/slike/biggrin.gif After about an hour and a half of ascent an acquaintance catches up climbing with snowshoes. He thanks us for the track and rushes ahead now making track for us so we progress easier. We reach the hut without major problems. The hut is quite visited as some already came from Golak. We drink tea and a shot of good stuff, chat with the hostess and cook, and head back to Mala Lazna. The return is via another path past the Ice Cave. Again we go first until we meet a couple who advanced towards the hut on this side. We chat and ski back on the track they made to the starting point. Just before the parking lot we get a snow squall.http://www.hribi.net/slike/smile.gif

Members of PD Nova Gorica placed the stamp on top of Krn, on my initiative. I've often heard remarks why there's no stamp on top, since a mountain like Krn must have one. This year we'll also place a box with a logbook

It was quite kitschy on Sunday. The winter-spring sun was pleasantly warming.

Igor is right, it's not worth risking in the wet as it is these days. To the lakes it's possible only over Batognica on dry land, otherwise without winter gear not recommended according to Dejan, the caretaker at Gomišček shelter, who today did this path both ways.

Today the Hut at Krn Lakes ended the winter season. Still about a meter of snow and nothing shows winter leaving. Today, though still a holiday due to worse valley weather, less visited, though sun greeted us at lake and Duplje pasture. Will reopen early June.

Krn summit now accessible via Škrbina or Batognica. Last weekend reached Škrbina on ski touring skis and skied back. Summer path not suitable so go straight to Škrbina. Morning when snow still hard smart to have crampons later when soft not.

Today I was at the Hut at Krn Lakes from Lepena. First third of the path bare then to the bench some snow, a bit further all covered. Snowpack at the gauge thick over 170 cm. Hut serviced by friendly young staff

14.2.2016 on Valentine's Sunday in a snowstorm, PD Nova Gorica hike to the top of Matajur from the Italian side. At the top real winter with icy wind and snow. We warmed up and refreshed ourselves in the Dom na Matajuru. The return to the road was a whole adventure, as snow covered the trodden path, so in fog and wind we barely found the right direction

Weekend at Dom pri Krnskih jezerih was fantastic. Snow is settled enough not to sink in, so walking around is pleasant for all kinds of hikers. Beach at Krn Lake is also open and lounging in the sunshine is unique

From 7.3.2015 the Hut at Krn Lakes is open. Hut will be open until 15.4.2015 for all fans of ski touring, snowshoeing or hikes to nearby peaks.

On Wed 24.10. six Primors guys caught the penultimate sunny day of the week.
From Logarska via Okrešelj through Turski žleb to Turska gora, via kotliči to Kamniško sedlo and back to Logarska dolina. Weather great, views fantastic, company excellent.

Very nice tour, which my colleague and I also did yesterday. Weather gorgeous, views magnificent especially from Begunjski vrh.
Also yesterday no crowds on the path from Kot we overtook three hikers further over Vrbanove špice there were only two ahead of us and two lucky ones behind us. View of Triglav wonderful only too many pilgrims for my taste. On the return past Staničeva koča it darkened above Triglav and started drizzling, from Debeleg kamen onwards it was already raining properly. The last hour wasn't pleasant at all, as the descent on wet rocks and stones became very demanding. Safely soaked to the bone we arrived at the parking lot. In Mojstrana the sun rays greeted us and a rainbow on the way home.
