Meanwhile two more mountain visitors got injured today. On descent from Begunjščica a hiker slipped and hurt his shoulder. Tržič mountain rescuers carried him to Lubelj, from there he was taken to Tržič health center.

This has nothing to do with conditions in the central gully. The accident happened much lower, on the ski slope.

Maybe someone knows what conditions are like in the central one? Could one go up tomorrow?

Today I opened the winter tours season with ascent up Central Gully on Begunjščica. Surprisingly lots of snow. Gully is filled, except one shorter jump. Otherwise pure real winter conditions.

Since last year I have this gully "on my radar" and think there'll be time (and conditions) this winter sometime. For better feel, how demanding is this gully compared to Turski žleb. I've done Turski žleb many times (winter, no mistake). Ask for rating from someone who's done both paths. Thanks.

Nothing special, easy scramble like TŽ. Otherwise this gully also used for descent. Here couple pics from this year, judge yourself ....

Triangel, Y Begunjščica over the jump, central down and Palec, roughly the loop above Ljubelj I did today. At the start around 6.00 met two touring skiers ascending to the hut. Up to Triangel watch sunrise, down and via Y gully over jump to Begunjščica, gully filled, just bit below top grass peeking, down Central to Palec, in scrub sinks a bit, most hard, up Palec ridge (harder, rock, snow) back on summer path ledge, hard base. Y Vrtača second via jump walked and back on ridge facing Begunjščica. At Ljubelj green light on, first degree.

Y Vrtača second time, they returned along the ridge facing Begunjščica.

No, it's not filled, it's a jump.

This was on Sunday 8.12, it can be even worse.

Today the central was very crowded. I descended via Šentanc, which in the upper part is almost compact. More recommendable is the descent via the central gully, which is nicely filled.

The central was this weekend, as always, very visited. Surprisingly, it is quite filled; rocks show only at one spot, but the passage is easy. cool

The snow is wind-blown powder, so we can be grateful to predecessors for the track; I suggest keeping one for ascent and the other for descent, because otherwise the track turns into a weird toboggan, which is awkward for walking, and especially gives the impression that the whole of Slovenia went to Begunjščica. This is just my opinion.

Today on Maret's invite to Begunjščica, Miha joined us. Up the upper path to Ječmenov kot, then along the road where just before Zelenica the hard snow base started. Here we put on crampons, helmet, ice axe and into the Central gully, where conditions were more than excellent today. Before sunrise we see lights towards the summit. At the summit nice and sunny without a breeze, ... For descent to Šentanec, which for a change did not have such a compact base as in the central. At Ljubelj we also meet Tadej, with whom we chat a little (he greets as soon as possible nasmeh
