"Yesterday, 1.3.2022 at 14:15, two flocks of cranes flew across the sky above Brezovica near Ljubljana. They flew practically over the motorway from the west towards the east. First there was just one flock, which circled over Brezovica for a few minutes. When the second flock approached it, the first flew towards the east, the second followed it with a 2-3 minute delay."

Yesterday at 9.45h flock of about 100 cranes over Rožna dolina. This time they flew quite low for these birds-direction Ajdivščina.

Today around 10h two more flocks over Biljenski griči flying towards Šempas or Ajdovščina. First had about 150 birds, ten minutes later cca 70; both formations flew at fairly high altitude.

And today 3? flocks shortly before 14h at same location; between first and last not more than 10min. First formation over 100 birds followed by small flock of about 30 birds at distance couple 100m-maybe split-off core?. Then after 10 min another about 80 birds

In the forest I found this ring. I consider that the bird lost it. Does anyone know what these marks on it mean?

I suggest you notify Slovenian Bird Ringing Centre about the find. Write to dfekonja@pms-lj.si. Only there you'll get reliable info. Attach as precise location and date as possible.

Hi,
this is a ring from a domesticated racing pigeon. Owner, e.g., releases them in Koper, they fly to Vienna. Meanwhile a predator sometimes "snatches" them. Ring remains. Especially under nests they are often found.
Our ringing database has no oversight of the data for these birds. It has it for all free-living birds.

Thanks for the information. Looks like a predator caught this bird and the ring stayed in the forest under the wall. I was interested because I know nothing about it.
