It's interesting to watch swallows. Still towards evening all four chicks fly into the nest to sleep. In the morning they fly off.

Today at 18.15 approx 20 cranes flew from west to east (over Medvode towards Ljubljana). Visibility was already poor, but based on their very loud calling I think they were cranes.

From Nov 1 I start putting seeds in the feeder for hungry winter feathered friends. For now I got colorful sunflowers, hemp and millet. Filled the seeds in the feeder still in the dusk. This year only one feeder, for years I had two. Half hour ago noticed quite a crowd at the feeder. Spotted small flock of crossbills, which surprised me a bit. Of course not without all three tits - great, blue and marsh tit. Already nuthatch. No sparrow flock yet, which usually come first. On ground noticed chaffinches and even two bullfinches. No woodpeckers, siskins yet. For some years no greenfinches, quite surprising. Few times winter season even long-tailed tits come. Regular guest also great spotted woodpecker. No collared doves this year either. Last year back even nested in our orchard. Occasionally last year even redwing and yellowhammer flew in. Since we live near forest and above Kokra river canyon see other birds near home - dipper, hooded crow, buzzard, common kestrel, in summer nightingale and wryneck. On ground by feeder put apple chunks so lots of blackbirds here. Noticed last year also goldcrest and wallcreeper. Magpies check our compost every day. By Kokra river spot mallards and dipper. In our village stork nests too. Few farms in village and lots of barn swallows. Will post later some more bird by our feeder. Have a nice day!

Yesterday we saw a million-strong starling flock above Debelem rtičem swirling here and there and then settling on all trees far around. Never seen anything like it.

Obviously migration time has arrived; yesterday at 11h flock of some 50 cranes over sp Vipava valley flying west. This was followed after a good 15min by another approx same flock.
