On Saturday, 26th, I plan to go through Born tunnels and Prevala pasture to Begunjščica.

I'm interested in the route and difficulty of the path...

Thanks

How many hours does this circular tour take, as I plan to hike it tomorrow?

I hiked the path last week, with the difference that I didn't go over Kalvarija but over Roža (that path is more gentle), to Roblek and then to the summit. Back you have to return to the path towards Zelenica (45 min.). Altogether I walked 6.5 hours with two breaks.

My favorite route: Ljubelj-Born tunnels-Prevala-over Roža to Roblek - summit Begunjščica - over Kalvarija back to Prevala. Super tour suitable for families. We hiked with small kids with longer breaks 9 hours.

For the route Ljubelj-Born tunnels-Prevala-Kalvarija-Zelenica-Ljubelj (circular variant), I used 6.5 hours. I'm not exactly an athlete (100kg), fitness so-so! No problem, relatively easy tour!
But over Kalvarija you have to bite into your knees a bit!

We used the May 1st holidays for a jump to Begunjščica. We parked at Ljubelj and headed along the Born path to the hut at Prevala. From there we followed Kalvarija ascent to Begunjska vrtača and traverse along the ridge to Veliki vrh. After a snack at the summit or feeding ravens, we descended to Roblek hut, where we treated ourselves to a hot meal and of course re-ascended to Prevala and descended via the demanding part to Zelenica hut. The whole path is dry, except remnants of snowdrifts on the ridge, which can be bypassed without issues. Different picture on descent to Zelenica. In the demanding part just below summit there are still many remnants of avalanches and ice remnants repeating all to the scrub, great caution needed when crossing them. Last part through scrub to hut is real winter calvary, as in scrub lots of snow, hardened and sinking to ass, but with persistence even wet gets far. For whole tour we spent eight hours and currently don't recommend descent from Roblek to Zelenica without required experience.
Best regards.

Despite not very promising weather forecast, our group heads to Begunjščica today. Path leads through Born tunnels to Prevala pasture and from there via Kalvarija to Begunjščica i.e. Veliki vrh. Path is dry but quite muddy, so some caution needed not to slip. At ridge crossing we are greeted by icy windeek, which makes us pull hats and gloves from backpacks. So short stop at summit, and already on way to Roblek. After short break from Roblek we tackle towards Tinčkova hut, then towards hut at Završnica spring, where shower catches us, accompanying to Zelenica hut. But path from Roblek is super, just caution on slippery roots not amiss. At Zelenica we finally get dry and wait out even full sun. Then jump to Ljubelj, where our iron ponies wait and thus end super circular path and regardless that today we experienced all weather conditions (except snow) we spent unique day.nasmeh

Did anyone hike the Born path yesterday or today? How much snow fell? We plan to go on Sunday, but don't want to wade through mud jezik.

There is quite a lot of water in both tunnels, it's good to have a flashlight with you to see where you step. The path is without special features, snow has melted.

Saturday circular Ljubelj-Zelenica Hut- Roblek Hut- over Roža- Prevala pasture – Born Tunnel –back to Ljubelj; parking at Ljubelj, common starting point for numerous mountain trails around there, already quite filling up; a good column of »hill walkers« enthusiasts bit into the steepness towards Zelenica, while the chairlift dangled more solitarily above our heads and the steepness to the top; goal not fully defined in head yet, upon arrival in front of the hut and talks with hikers crystallizes into -forward to Roblek Hut; already from the hut visible continuation of the all-marked trodden path winds quite upwards in dwarf pine zigzag style, soon replaced by scree of larger rocks and stones, then alternating dwarf pines, steep scree, then rocky path…. and far ahead in barely visible field a couple of colorful, moving and squealing dots; all along accompanied by view of Vrtača and Stol, on side ridge enhances view also to Bohinj mountains, Julian Alps and of course valley with Bled Lake-bonbon!; older couple laughing »by the way prismuča« down the scree and continues towards (probably) Smokuški pasture, while I stick to inner side so I don't accidentally slide onto slippery scree, hahaha; well, need to bite upwards a bit more, sometimes narrower path, somewhere wider narrows terribly to me on two, three turns and looking downeek, uf, wouldn't; a bit more, and we're at first »rope« over rock; well they are really just aid, not »panic«; then some more turns, new ridge with iron holds and already descent down to Roblek Hut - summit waits next time. At hut full occupancy, follows martini time in safe shade, snack from backpack, then continuation, in midday heat (thank god in tree shade) over already known Roža to Prevala pasture and from here just an hour through Born Tunnels (with puddles) and with bundle of nice new impressions, clean lungs and full batteries back to start; to me, wonderful path; lp

Weather didn't hold even to the top, but in the end it wasn't important. Start at Ljubelj, on nicely groomed path through Born tunnels to Prevala. Then via Kalvarija, luckily not too greasy yet, to the top. From saddle to top already in clouds (real ones), at top icy rain and views from water jezik. Despite cloud or precisely because of it a bit below top we catch ptarmigans, really already quite white. Straight away to the other side and for something warm at Roblek. Rain made field out of path, squelching all the way. From Roblek over Roža back to Prevala and again through tunnels. Path is muddy and greasy, requires caution, no snow though. Rest as befits season, especially loving is section from Ljubelj to bunker, intended for what else than love. nasmeh

The loop can be shortened considerably if descending from top via Šentanski Plaz to Ljubelj. It is quite gravelly, if in lower part keeping more right, we hit path to intermediate cable car station.

Ljubelj- Prevala- over Kalvarija to Veliki vrh - Zelenica - Ljubelj. Over Kalvarija gnawed knees for 1 hour, from Veliki vrh chased secure steps on slippery (mud-made slippery nasmeh) rocks. Above Roblek Hut we turned right and crossed screes and all rocky and dwarf pine stuff to Zelenica Hut, where we plunged into fog. Before that Sun, 100 suns and beautiful views all the way to Ankogel, Hochalmspitze...not even mentioning our beauties (rocky nasmeh). Real shame to be back in foggy valley.
