Everything you're asking you'll find in this guide:

http://www.emka.si/artikel/354131/Julijske-Alpe-planinski-vodnik

There are plenty of guides. You just need to take them in hand.

http://www.pzs.si/index.php?stran=Trgovina&kat=1

http://www.sidarta.si/gornistvo.html

And also maps, which are excellent (if not indispensable) supplement to guides:

http://www.pzs.si/index.php?stran=Trgovina&kat=6

To you and all who ask similar questions: mountaineering websites are just a supplement to the mentioned literature (don't forget courses on safe movement in mountains), by no means the only source enabling safe movement in the mountains.

Yes, Gorazd, thanks, I agree, but even with all guides and maps sometimes it's better to ask people who have tested it on the ground.

In Mihelič's Julijci guide for example I didn't find description of path from Luknja to Prehodavci?

Has anyone walked these days the path Zadnjica - Luknja - Bovški Gamsovec - Pogačnikov Dom - Zadnjica? Are conditions summer-like or OK?

amer, Luknja-Prehodavci, even a quick look at the map tells you that you have to descend from Luknja to Zadnjica and climb to Zadnjiški dol and further to Prehodavci or from Luknja to junction and up towards Dolič, then you can choose between Kanjavčeve police, Hribarice or straight over Kanjavec summit, simple as beans.
Bizy, this morning on path Zadnjica - Luknja no snow, likewise didn't notice any to the top of B. Gamsovec, maybe some in a hole on Kriški podi, anyway, summer conditions.

In Sidarta guides the whole tour is described in one place, in PZS guides a bit of flipping is needed to compose the tour, as first approaches to huts and bivouacs are described, then in continuation of each chapter from them to summits. With practice and years of use you'll notice it's no longer demanding task, as you know exactly where to find what. You won't even need to look at index anymore.

* Luknja - Zadnjica chapter 404/first part in reverse (also reading 'backwards' can be learned very quickly)

* Zadnjica - Prehodavci 441

* Luknja - Dolič 448/second part and 447/second part

* Dolič - Prehodavci 444 and 445 (both reverse direction)

Looking at 1998 edition. Last edition 2003

"Has anyone walked the path Zadnjica - Luknja - Bovški Gamsovec - Pogačnikov Dom - Zadnjica these days? Are the conditions summer(-like) or OK?"

Walked this week. Conditions fully summer-like, all the way to Razor. New markings from Luknja to Gamsovec. I advise against the path for the inexperienced, because the descent from Gamsovec to Križke pode is quite demanding (not merely technically, but: steep wall, most of the path without protection.)

Can someone please advise in which direction Bovški Gamsovec is nicer to traverse. Is the better direction Luknja - BG - Dovška Vrata or reverse?

Namely I'm thinking if it's possible in one day from Pogačnikov dom to Prehodavci? By my calculation it should be 7h (via Dolič).
Thanks for help.

If you're setting off from Kriške pode towards Prehodavci, then no need to think about it. As predecessors have already written on various pages, the path from Dovška vrata to Bovški Gamsovec is quite exposed in some sections, but nothing harder. The descent to Luknja itself is very demanding in wet conditions due to possible slipping, no other difficulties on the path. View towards Stena is magnificent. On the ascent you'll enjoy the company of ibex, on the other side of the mountain marmots will greet you. Just boldly and safely. LP Andrej

Yesterday did the tour starting and ending in Vrata. Up over Sovatna, down over Luknja.
Weather fine, not too crowded. Ibex and plenty of flowers were not missing. Also nice view on Stena for most of the path.
Just before the summit we met 2 masters who were drilling new pegs and securing the wire ropes. Wondered if they carried the generator, petrol, that big Hilti and all necessary iron up themselves. Tough nasmeh

It promises a nice day so I start towards Sovatna already in the dark. Slowly I finally pant to the top. At Dovška vratca I descend through karst landscape to Pogačnikov dom for tea. When returning to the vratca somewhere midway I surprise a chamois mom with young. They jump about 20m aside and watch me. I barely dare to breathe, never seen them so close. I take some shots, sit and wait for them to go, don't want to chase them. Slowly they approach the path and walk on it in front of me, then slowly across the plain they turn right to the scree under Bov. Gamsovec, I to Dovška vratca, unforgettable. From the vratca I climb to Bov. Gamsovec. I return towards Luknja pass and on to Vrata. On the way I visit a herd of ibex grazing under Bov. Gamsovec. It was a nice day, all the best.

The last flawless beautiful day before the announced weather deterioration gets us out of bed early. We drive to Vrata and climb via Sovatna to the summit. On the way, far above we spot two chamois, ibex have apparently "moved" somewhere. At the top quite windy, but despite that we stay quite long because of the unique views far around. We descend towards Luknja. We carefully "inspect" the surroundings and far on top of the scree under Pihavec we spot three ibex lazily lounging in the sun. The path from Luknja to Vrata is in this autumn time "dark", be careful on slippery rocks and slabs. Mid-afternoon the shadows along the path testify that the sun hardly shines here these days... Aljažev dom is closed, roof renovation in full swing...

Long hidden wish to meet the wall and pegs was fulfilled yesterday on Bovški Gamsovecvelik nasmeh. The path over Sovatna is really steep from the very beginning, but you're rewarded with wonderful views for every step. Even that bit of fear how it will be in the wall dissipated, because I had a wonderful friend by my side who helped me at every stepnasmeh. Knees really shake at views of the sheer wallseek, but the path is really well protected, so you can enjoy those views without worry. At the top satisfied with success I enjoy the wonderful views of our daddy from one side, as well as Jalovec and Mangart, and Križ and Stenar which will be next time. For the return path we chose Luknja, as descent on scree is much more pleasant. And we didn't regret it, as along the path we stumbled on a family of ibex resting in summer heat, and a bunch of edelweiss cheered us on the way. Wonderful day, full of beautiful and new experiences.

I was also there yesterday on Bovški Gamsovec, really via the path through Luknja though. I continued the trail to Stenar and Križ. The view of Triglav, as Nacek says, is really impressive.

Morning in Zadnjica really fresh and likewise shade cooled us all the way to the top of Luknja... most via Plemenice, we towards and over Bovški Gamsovec to Kriške pode and back to Zadnjica.
Weather cloudless and despite wind it was hot, hot, hot...nasmeh

Yesterday 3.9.2011 at 5:16 start of the hike Vrata valley towards Luknja pass a huge number of hikers on the way all to Triglav some via Prag others via Plemenice. Interesting to see those scenes in morning darkness like fireflies with headlamps...from Luknja pass onwards alone to Bovški Gamsovec, chose this tour because I wanted something easy and also wanted to see ibexes. Didn't think I'd get them so close (about 4m) unfortunately missed filming the males' duel when they clash heads together. On ascent met only two hikers descending. On the summit alone for a while, standard duties sign book, stamp, phenomenal view all around. Then got company on summit about 20 Czechs came puffing up whom I had to photograph on departure. Descent towards Kriška polja is a bit demanding but no panic the path is well secured. Towards Pogačnikov dom a bit earlier climbed a hill above Srednje kriško lake, nice view into Spodnja Trenta valley, lay on grass looking around nearby peaks, especially Razor won't let me rest (maybe next time). Continued towards Stenar, ascent to summit no problems but path poorly marked (faded marks). On Stenar summit stayed quite long, had chance to see a hiker without any gear just with a bag in which they had a bottle of drink (foreigners they were). Descent a bit awkward due to scree on path and drop to Vrata valley via Sovatna. Fantastic tour, weather perfect, excellent photo conditions, more easy without extreme climbing, especially if you go to mountains to listen to nature and not for self-proving. About my feelings, thoughts and more photos will be at this link.
