Nice pics, I have to admit that every time I head to the mountains I wish to see an ibex live, visited quite a few peaks including Triglav yesterday, but haven't had that luck yet, so now I know where to go to see this beautiful creature

Nice photos In these parts you really get to these wonderful animals most easily, obviously they're quite used to visitors. They don't let themselves be disturbed

Yeah I was surprised too that they're not shy unlike chamois that hide quickly, I was even a bit scared because they were grazing first on the path I was going then moved a bit higher where it's more even so we could meet and photograph, otherwise really nice path to Bovški Gamsovec even though it doesn't exceed others in height it offers everything we look for in mountains

Well today I went on the mentioned path for the first time, and as I already wrote a bit higher, that I've always wanted to meet an ibex live it certainly came true on this path, and not just one ,...anyway I went on the same tour as pohodnik38, i.e. through Luknja to Bovški Gamsovec, then descent to polja and then to Stenar, back via Sovatna to the valley,..weather was beautiful, lots of people, views of course wonderful, warmly recommend a visit, you won't regret

On 10.9. we started from Zadnjica to Luknja, where we had a break, and continued the path towards Bovški Gamsovec, on which there was a beautiful view of nearby peaks bathing in the sun. Then we went on to Stenar to conclude a beautiful day in the mountains, then followed the descent to Pog.dom.

Bovški Gamsovec starting from Zadnjica via Luknja on Saturday. Crystal morning promised clear visibility all day, but cold fog was rolling over Luknja with the wind. It persisted up to 2000m, occasionally mists danced up to the summit.

Yesterday on Bovški Gamsovec from Vrata via Luknja, path super, aids ok. Weather wonderful, not a cloud, only on summit windy and cold. Lucky with ibex too, one was lying leisurely right in the middle of the path Will add some pics tomorrow, best regards..

... and finally managed to photo real animal mannequins, wish for quite some time. Wonderful day on Bovški Gamsovec, where you are in the center of the Julian Alps, beautiful views on nearby and distant peaks, autumn is here, larches starting to yellow slowly. LP!

Yes, thanks for the advice, some eyes water when reaching the top of Triglav, mine almost when we got to these beauties. I even had a snack - felt like a shepherdess, really had to be early (at 10 we were already on top), only then you catch them on morning pasture, then they go rest for chewing. Some within arm's reach, really wonderful experience long sought. Made 149 photos, 2 weeks ago on Triglav 39. Really wonderful mountain, for a while completely alone on summit ... unforgettable. Safe steps all.

Where did I miss them then, last week up at half seven - no one anywhere, not even down to Luknja . Probably on pasture somewhere, but out of eyeshot

You had real special "luck". When I wandered around there in summer so many chamois I barely got through. When I thought end of animals a marmot ran almost over my feet. Really crazy. Been many times in area, but never so many critters. Was really first that day.

... janna I'd say you heard ibex, which also announce with whistles when they sense danger, ... you just need to search for them behind some cliff. Also on Saturday they whistled like that quite a while, ...

jprim, quite possible, but it was strange that I really saw none. Next time I'll be more attentive to it

In the vast majority we hear marmot whistles. Ibex, which are not shy, call out more rarely. The marmot's whistle also differs quite a bit from the ibex whistle. The marmot whistles sharply, the ibex whistle lacks that sharpness, like using a slightly clogged whistle.

Bovec Chamois Peak - Stenar
Yesterday I decide to make use of these nice October days. From work rather late, so only around 11 at Aljažev dom. To Luknja the whole path in shade, rocks wet, so caution needed, especially downhill. First sun rays only at Luknja and I head to Gamsovec. Soon I scare a marmot sunbathing under Pihavec. Path to top is good, no special features. At top snack and obligatory photos. Since no rush I decide to go on to Stenar, path to Dovška vrata quite exposed and well protected accordingly. Here I run into ibex calmly chewing lunch. From here through scree to Stenarska vrata, full of barbed wire (not nice to step on, let alone fall? ). Under Stenar ibex resting undisturbed. Just below summit I scare a pair of ptarmigans already in winter plumage. At top enjoying peace and beauty of the views . Then descent to Dovška vrata and over Sovatna, which drags a bit towards end, to Aljažev dom for deserved drink. Hut closing in 10 days . Super loop tour in super weather !
