I start around 3 a.m., this time with full winter gear, walking through high grass/nettles, under the walls eyes are glowing. At the hunting hut it is still dark, the path is known to me, higher under the wall the sun greets me, there is snow, I cross it below without ice axe. Higher in the gully I take the ice axe and easily reach the ridge, a few more minutes and a beautiful view opens all around.
It's already so dark up high1

I see that no one has posted here for over a year, but I wonder if anyone has been up there recently (or on some other peak of Loška stena) and if there is still any snow on the ridge. Thanks for the reply.

If you're thinking of going to Briceljk, you'll surely have snow in the gully.

I'm planning to go to this summit. From what I read, it's an unmarked path. I've never hiked such paths before. What's the chance I'll conquer it with the route description.

Thanks

Very high. You need to tackle it in nice, not too hot (which it will be in the coming days) and stable weather. The path is nicely traceable despite not being marked.

Thanks for the reply and encouragement.
From what I read in the above posts, there might still be snow on this path. Do such conditions require additional gear?.

A long-planned goal was receding and things looked bad again for this year. But sometimes things work out just like that. Already the starry sky at Mangart Saddle promised a clear day.
Yesterday, on Sunday, conditions for the ascent to Briceljk were excellent, if not optimal. No heat, and the views in autumn are unique.
A total of 6 hikers, two solo hikers and two couples. Pictures say more.

Above Bavšica it's foggy, higher up some clarity. There's little snow on the path to the hunting hut in Bala, and there's even a track made. Before the hut I go along the unmarked trail, which in the lower part is still covered with snow that mostly holds, higher up less snow. The real snow cover starts above Stador, mostly crusty, which is a bit awkward for progress. Despite the fog I approach directly, then through the nicest passages to the short gully and in the sun to the summit.

I descend to the saddle behind Stador, then traverse east across Lepoč and down to Prevala, and across Jezerca and past the hunting hut to the valley.

There's practically no danger of snow avalanches, caution is mainly needed because under the crust there's sometimes loose snow that doesn't provide support everywhere.

Briceljk - up and down from Bavšica

Very suitable time and very pleasant current conditions for access to the highest peak of Loška Stena: there's just enough daylight left, not too hot, no humidity, lush vegetation and grasses have mostly dried, no snow in the upper shady gully, currently no winter gear needed, no adders either. And no people except chamois. From the top at this time and weather the views are really magnificent, but for stamp collectors or similar trophies, Briceljk unfortunately (or fortunately) has no box and logbook.
The path is otherwise without special features, to the hunting hut above Planina Bala (and further towards Jalovec) it's marked anyway, the start of the trail above the water trough at the hunting hut and the traverse through the forest that takes us about 1 km back above Planina Bala and below Stador is a bit harder to find for those inexperienced in pathless terrain, because at this time there's a lot of fallen leaves on the ground, but numerous cairns help. Further – when you come out of the forest onto steep grass, the trail upwards is nicely traceable and also enriched with cairns.
Higher up the approach terrain is varied, but since you always have the prominent Stador on the right as orientation, then from the saddle below it onwards the valley between peaks, it's practically impossible to get lost. In the head of the valley above the last scree, first deal with a short rock step, then above it head left upwards towards the prominent shady rock gully. Crossing it is steep but not difficult, you exit onto a small saddle, from there along the ridge edge to the top is no more than 10 min and no problems.
… more description of conditions under the pictures.

If I get company, I'll be in Bavšica around 18:00 today from where I'll go to the hunter's hut above Bala. There I'll sleep in front of the hut and on Tuesday around 5:00 go to Briceljk. If anyone wants to join call 031-615 479 to arrange.
Regards Ivo

Yesterday members of PD Dramlje climbed to Briceljk. We started the tour in Bavšica, ascended the marked path to planina Bala and hunter's hut. Here we refilled fresh water and then headed on unmarked trail. First through forest, then traverse and ascent through high grasses. Along the way we also enjoyed fresh strawberries and ever better views. In the upper part of the scree there's still some snow, but it can be bypassed. Above the scree you need to climb a bit over the rock jump, caution needed due to mix of soil and loose stones that slip underfoot quickly. At the top wonderful views of the Julians and all the way to the sea.
We descended the eastern side of Stador, found running water along the way and again down pathless to the valley to the hunter's hut. Here you occasionally run into a lone guy. From hunter's hut back to Bavšica.

Yesterday in organization of PD Železniki we visited Briceljk and Stador. From Hunter's hut on planina Bali to summit Briceljk leads a moderately visible trail. Walking is very hindered by grass, as you never know exactly what you'll step on. Path is fairly easy, a bit more caution needed only from rock threshold to gully under ridge. Ascent to Stador is somewhat harder, as trail to it is poorly visible through steep grasses and somewhat slippery rocks. Passages to it we look for on left, north side of ridge. Descended northeast along nicely visible valley towards Lanževica. In first half valley even rises about 50m, then slowly descends to Lanževica, only at end descent steeper. From Stador to Hunter's hut took two hours fifteen minutes, whole tour almost ten hours, net walking eight and a half hours. As I said, mainly due to high grasses very tiring tour. At end fatigue forgotten of course, beauty of walked path remains long in memory.
